OK.  I have decided to change to a water bowl after lilly is trying to drink out of the spring loaded one and she is trying to bit it off the cage because she isn’t getting enough water!  However, they haven’t used the bowl yet that Ive seen.. how do I make them understand that water is in the bowl to drink??  I had both up.. but as of last night I took the spring loaded down because my mom and bf said that they will learn only if the spring one is gone.. hrm.  But I am scared they will just not drink ANYTHING.

i don’t know that you need to do anything special to make them drink.  i would suggest that until you actually see them both drink, wet down their veggies pretty good so even if they’re not drinking, they are getting some water.

When I first brought  Edson home I used a crock because he wasn’t drinking out of the water bottle. I found out later that that bottle was defective.  It did take him a day to use the crock which sent me into a panic.  I just put his nose up to the crock and kinda splashed his face – just a little and he got it.  My problem with the crock was that he was drinking so much  I decided to try the water bottle again but got a bigger one – 32oz.   The new one worked perfectly. I just couldn’t keep up with the crock because of the amount of water he was drinking.

Edited – If the crock does not work out I strongly suggest getting another kind of water bottle because you may have a defective one.  My brand is Oasis and it is great.

A trick I found is to use a squeeze bottle to fill the bowl. They see and hear the water so they run over to get it.

Thank you guys! I will try to splash them in the face (I did this last night, but I swear Lilly is a bit slow with these things.. and Henry follows her!) again.. I also put their bottle back in, just in case. And I also soaked down their lettuce, so hopefully they will figure it out. Lilly was laying with her EAR in the water bowl, silly bun..

Yeah that’s another reason I don’t like a water bowl!

Oh something to think about, if your bun likes to try to toss or shove the crock around you can find some that will attach to the side of the cage.
