I don’t think there’d be an easy way to do that, but i”m not sure. I’d hope a vet could tell though?

i don’t think there is anyway you can tell. a vet might be able to feel the stomach for scar tissue, but i think the only way to know for sure would be an ultrasound (which is probably as much as the cost of the spay).

where is this rabbits from? can you ask the people who had it before? chances are good that it’s not spayed… if it’s from a petstore that is selling speutered buns, i believe it may have an ear tattoo, a little circle. you should also be able to ask for a spay certificate.

Some rescues and humane societies are putting tattoo ink on the spay incision, so as it heals the ink heals into the skin and it is obvious the pet was spayed.  But not everyone is doing this.  The first step might be to shave the belly to see if a spay scar is visible.  Otherwise exploratory surgery/spay if bunny is found to be intact, or an ultrasound- but I am not sure how reliable an ultrasound would be.

Also, note that if they do put tattoo ink on the incision, many times it looks like just a blue blurry mark – sort of like a bruise. (nothing like a tattoo since they aren’t actually using tattoo tools)

Okay thanks for the advice. I was looking to have moreland meet a craigslist bunny however the owners didnt know if it was spayed since they were the second owners. I passed and rather wait a while and perhaps have him start dating some shelter bunnies first since i will knwo they are spayed.

Oh that’s sad that is that bunny’s second owner and they are trying to find her a new home :~(

I’ve found that most likely if the owner doesn’t know if the bunny is altered then the bunny is probably not altered. However many pet stores are offering altered rabbits and you can usually tell with a small dot tattoo in the ear too.

I have been surprised though when I’ve pulled rabbits from a shelter who were spayed – of course I didn’t know this until the vet actually started the surgery then called me to ask where I got the rabbit from and to tell me she was already spayed!
