Hi there!  My poor bunny hates it when I cook (even toaster or microwave), and I’m wondering what I can do to comfort her.  I am a vegetarian and don’t even cook much, but even just reheating pasta for half a minute sends poor Athena into her hidey box.  Her condo is at the other end of the (pretty large) kitchen, but the distance doesn’t comfort her.  She could run and hide in my room (the only other room in my little apartment), but she doesn’t…  In any case, I try to speak soothingly to her throughout, and offer her pats and treats, but the poor babe is so scared she sometimes won’t even take them.    I’ve been trying to cook as little as possible, just eating salads and cold veggie sandwiches as much as I can, but I do need the kitchen from time to time.  Is there anything I can do to help my sweet bun be less afraid, and/or to soothe her when she gets scared?  Thank you so much for your advice.

Jack has always hated the kitchen noises and smells. I think that at least you being a vegetarian, she is not freaking out about the scent, so it must be the noises? Certain noises too, like the microwave or the scent of food may let her know that the dishes are soon going to knock together or on the counter. I mean I know how certain dishes that hit the counter accidentally too hard, or if a fork falls on a plate, how that hurts my ears, and so I wonder if, because of how sensitive their ears are, if even just normal dish sounds sound like slamming down etc.

You could try to be quieter (boy, we sure are bunny slaves!), and see if over time that may help???

Have you tried opening the door or window to help keep the smell out?

Maybe a little soothing music from a CD player near her cage would mask the cooking sounds.
