How to reduce the size of rabbit litter area

Some starting information, I only have my one male bunny right now, Oliver. He is not neutered yet, and I know that will really help with his litter habits. I am in the process of trying to get him neutered and have been for a while, he’s 8 months old so he is old enough but he has problem with his testis, for some reason they are too small for his age. So the vet is scared to take him into surgery until they are big enough. So I have to wait another three or four months until he goes in for another check up to see if he’s ready.

He doesn’t like using a litterbox, but he does have dedicated corner for his toilet that he regularly uses, so I just use puppy pads and he goes on those. 

Basically in the meantime, I wanted to know if there was any way that I can actually train him to properly use a litterbox while unfixed? or if I could get him to reduce the size of his dedicated corner so it would be smaller and easier to take care of.

That is very weird about them being too small! I have never heard of that. What I have heard of, is that bucks can “suck” their testes up when they are scared and generally when you are at the vet they can’t even tell that they are there. That is what happened with my buck. Once under anesthetics, the vet was able to “pull” them down and remove them. Have you received a second opinion about this?

Why don’t you just place a litter box there? I put the litter box into the buns favourite poopy/pee corner and that is that! Pick up the poop that is laying around every morning and place it into the litter box, as well as if he is peeing on his blankets or all over his cage, clean it every 2 days, then he will get used to only smelling his pee, etc in the litter box and will eventually go there. This didn’t change for my buck after we neutered him. His potty training actually got worse and I have been retraining him! It takes time and effort but it works

I use CareFresh Natural in my buns litter boxes- it’s a paper bedding that absorbs the pee very well, and I change it daily. It doesn’t smell if changed! You might want to leave yours for a day or two before changing so he knows to go there.

What sort of set up do you have for him? Does he have a cage? Pen?

What sort of litter? Any bedding if you use it (wood shavings, paper etc)  or any other materials lining his area? Size of litter box? These things can impact on litter training.

Have you thought about seeking a second opinion about his readiness to be neutered?

Sorry this is superrr late response but if anybody looks at this thread i wanted to let them know i did find a solution! i bought a cheap tarp from walmart and put it under the litterbox and let it cover the area that he kept going all over. and almost immediately he started to only go in his litter box. I think he just couldnt differentiate the carpet feel from the feel of the litter, since they are both soft? but anyway over a couple weeks i started reducing the size of the tarp while keeping it always infront/under the litterbox. and now he has great litterbox habits. i cut the tarp. and now it just sticks out a foot infront of his litterbox just to make sure he doesnt pick up that habit again, because i still have carpet. ?
