Hey y’all!  I havent posted in forever, got caught in school and facebook games.  But I’m back to stay hopefully.  Anyways I think Im moving.  My best friend, who has had an awful life, needs to move and start over and is going to Tennessee.  Well Im going to miss her way to much, and ill be super bored here without her.  I live with my mom, but she is only here and awake maybe 10 hours a week, so im alone 90% of the time.  When my friend is gone that doesnt leave me with much, because ive always much prefered to have a few very very close friends instead of a bunch of friends I dont really care about.  But she is by far the closest person to me anyway.  So im going with her I think.  (None of that is really important to my question, I just dont want you guys to think im being a impulsive teeneager.) Anyways ill be moving to Tennessee (only 4 or 5 hours away) late summer, just in time to start the semester at whichever college I pick to tranfer to.

Anyways the problem is her fiance (who we will be living with) is severly allergic to all kinds of animals.  But have no fear!  I will not leave my babies.  The plan is they will buy a house that has a room over the garage (or build one on it depending if we find one) so that the buns wont actually be IN the house, and itll be like a dorm room for me.  Ill lent roll myself like crazy when I go in the house and vaccum my room every couple days to keep the hair at a minimum.  But he is very allergic, so any tips from you guys that live with buns and allergies?  I have zero experience so im really clueless.  I dont want him to have to take meds all the time, Ill already be living there free and would feel bad if he had to take meds because I have bunnies.  Does anyone use air filters?  One that works good and doesnt make noise, suggestions for those would be awesome.  So really im looking for any tips and tricks.  And those with allergies, do you think this will be enough to not have him affected at all?  I dont want to go through the whole thing of telling my family im leaving, transfere schools, changing my address etc etc to just pack up and go back home.

Is it the actual bunnies he’s allergic too, or the hay? Alot of people with animal allergies are affected more by the hay the buns eat than the animal itself..

I think if you can keep your buns in another room where he won’t have contact with them or with the hay, he should do really well. The hair should stay out of his bedroom and off of his couch, etc. That may be enough to keep him allergy free.

He is allergic to the buns, not sure about the hay. He has never been in my room to see if the hay affects him. But he is allergic to all animals. When he was younger his brother smuggled a cat into his room. For weeks nobody knew, never saw the cat or hair, but he was sick with allergies. Lol, his brother made sure the hair wasnt all over, but because it was in the house he still had allergies. So hoping since the four of us will be technically not in the house he will be okay.

Well you could try having him hang out with the bunnies and then ask him to take a great big sniff of the hay and see which triggers the allergies Or he could go get tested. If he’s that affected by allergies, he might want to be on shots or something anyway. I think though that if they’re in a different room he’d be ok, as long as you’re not bringing fur and hay in with you on your clothes.

I do use an air purifier/fiilter and I really really like it. I typed up a big post a little bit ago about what I found when I was looking for an air purifier for another member wondering about them. I talk about the one I have in that thread.  Maybe it’ll help you too!

well my mom has a friend who is allergic to bunny’s and she came over to scrapbook with my mom and she was stuffed up the whole time. my door was closed to. would it be a door that attaches you from the house or do you actually have to go out side to get into the house because if its just a door separating you then he might still get stuffed up.

Has he agreed to this arrangement? I know you want to go with your friend but aren’t you afraid he’ll resent feeling like crap all the time and make living together difficult? I’m not trying to be a downer but the reality is that if he’s paying the mortgage he has the right to live in his home without animals if he knows he’s allergic to them.

Barbie- Thanks a bunch. Ill check out that thread for sure.
Mocha- It would be totally detached. Like walk outside to get from my room to the house.
TARM- Yes, he suggested it. He knows both my friend and myself wont be happy if we cant see each other often, and he just wants her to be okay. So that’s where I come in. He is just so darn nice. At first I did question if I should impose on him so much, but he just kept telling me not to worry about, his pleasure, don’t mention it etc etc. He says if its bad he will take meds or shots or whatever, I just don’t want him to have to do that.

I’m envisioning you installing one of those decontamination things into the entrance to your little area there… airlocks and all No fur getting out of there! lol

TARM- Yea I know, I sound completely dumb lol. But yes, he has agreed, he was the one to suggest it. He just wants her to be okay and happy, so that’s where I come in. I was worried about imposing on him so much, but ive been told not to worry about it over and over again. He said he will take meds if it gets bad but I just don’t want him to have to.

Bunny Hazmat suits. They can hop around in little white coveralls with helmets.
