  So I am likely to bring Emily’s son home today he is sad has not bonded with either of his sisters and needs to be litter trained but I am up for the challenge I got the call today that he is just not him self So I fee I should try and reunite them sooner than later and since Emily has been so great I should be able to do this it will be a foster situation until I am sure I can keep him.
  
  The issue he is matted has never been brushed and I dont think I can get a brush through his fur! I would have to trim it majorly! Is that ok he is at the SPCA right now and I am trying to figure this out… What kind of bunny is he i know he is part rex like his mom but I am just curious. What kind of brush his hair is like 4 inches long! Please help I need the advice!

  He’s cute – he looks like a Jersey Wooly to me.
  
  I wouldn’t use a brush – it just won’t work for this wooly fur.

  You may have to initially cut out mats too if he’s full of mats…as long as they aren’t close to the skin.

  I have been wanting to buy that brush but the shipping is crazy! Its more than the brush x2 or very close but I may consider it. Would a slicker help at all?

  Binkybunny shipping is a little pricey, but the advantage is, the item arrives very quickly, and if you add additional items to your cart, the shipping does not go up too much.. and, last but not least, BB always puts a surprise in the box

  I did order one only because it looks like a great product & I love this site! arriving in about 2 days does not suck either I got a willow ball to see if they like them. Ahh what we do for our buns!

  We had a matted angora come into a shelter I volunteered at. Because rabbit skin is stretchy like a cat you cannot (repeat-cannot) nick it with sissors or a razor-big injury. I worked for hours every night with sissors and got no where. I finally contacted some groomers and found one who was comfortable shaving the rabbit if I helped. THAT was a THREE HOUR process-and one I will never regret! Her fur came in beautifully and the groomer did a stunning job. Now that was big time mats that I could never have gotten to-like the fur inbetween the perineal bump and legs-or under her chin. The groomer was able to shave that. So if he’s a big mess-I’d get a pro’s help.
  
  However yours does not look that matted but I had to share my ‘matt pain’ I used to use a slicker=which I found worked great, as well as the binkybunny comb-also great- on my lionhead… but I’ve given up and got pro shears and I just keep her goofy looking and clipped right down. This is probably a refection of my laziness as now the long haired pig is clipped and we shaved the dog last weekend too

  If there are just a few mats, then I would simply cut them off. Be careful if you use scissors. I have been using nail clippers to just snip the part that is hanging on and that works pretty well. I just make sure I’m not anywhere near the skin. I use a slicker brush, but I am probably going to try the one on BB.

  OMG, what an adorable little puff ball!! I’ve known another rabbit in a similar situation who was shaved. She looked kind of funny immediately afterwards, but it seemed like the best solution.

  rue’s breeder shaves or partially shaves (depending on the rabbit) her jersey wooly and angora does before they give birth. a slicker brush works great to keep rue mat free, but i don’t know what to use for a bun that is already matted. good luck with him, he is absolutely adorable! i do have a weak spot for fluffy buns.
