Right now we have Blue in a large room that’s the opening to my bedroom, my bathroom, and the office. They all have doors so I can just close them to keep him out, but we have an archway that leads to the rest of the house in his room that’s hard to close off for him. Right now, we have cardboard boxes stacked up when he comes out so he can’t jump over. But he’s become trickier about it and figured out that if he digs hard enough at the bottom box the whole thing will fall over and he can get out. He actually just did it as I was typing this. Is there a way to shut off this archway that’s sturdy and tall enough that he can’t jump over it? Basic baby gates won’t work, because he can just jump over them.

I’m going to have to measure it to see how tall the boxes are right now, he can almost jump all the way over them! Thank you for the suggestion!

Yeah, he can jump over 51+ inches, neither of those will work, thank you though!

How wide is the archway? Could you use a solid gate or a half door? Also, can he jump 51 inches straight up, or does he climb up the gate?

He can jump straight up and over. The archway is about 2 feet wide, I haven’t considered either of those, I’ll look into it!

Really if he’s going that high, you are going to have to make a door for it. Thats only 8 inches away from my height!

Agh, I’m going to put some weight in the boxes so he can’t push them over and maybe if I yell when he digs at it he’ll learn to stop. If he continues we’ll have to make a door for this little rascal.

My flemish giant can jump exceptionally high, but he doesn’t like to jump over things unless he knows he can land safely. I have been working on making a dividing wall with nic grids and a wooden frame. When I stacked boxes he would get over them all the time because he had a place to land at the top and then jump down. But he dislikes the thin nic grid walls. I make them 3 grids high(but do more if you need to) and then I went to the hardware store and got these little eyelet and hook locks. Like for an outdoor gate but much smaller. I have the hooks attached to the nic grids and I have screwed the two small metal eyes into the wall on either side of our archway. Bunny can’t get out or move the wall, but it is easy to set up and take down. It did take some time to make and a couple trips to the hardware store.
