My bun recently got castrated so we are currently giving him the medicine mixed with pear juice (don’t worry, it’s completely organic) but even with that, he refused to drink it on his own. So I used a syringe but some of the juice got on his fur, right under his chin and now it’s clumped together. I don’t think he can reach it to clean it himself so what should I do?

I don’t have much experience with sticky fur but could you perhaps use a damp towel, or sponge, etc? Maybe with a bit of white vinegar on it, as I believe that can help with sticky residue if I’m not mistaken. And maybe go through the fur with a brush of some kind to help de-clump it?

I would use a paper towel or washcloth dampened with some warm water. Just pet him under the chin with it gently. You can do it in increments if he doesn’t like it much. It should also help if he is drinking frequently from a water bowl, as the water will dribble on his chin.

I was just wondering this same thing. My bun’s medicine has started to clump on her fur around her mouth and cheeks (due to her moving her head a lot when I syringe feed her) and I’m wondering if dawn soap is safe? I’ve tried a wet cloth multiple times and it’s not really budging.

I just used a wet washcloth, not too damp because you don’t want them to get sick or anything. Dawn dish soap is what they use on animals during oil spills so I would think it was safe. Just use it sparingly, and maybe do a wipe with just water at the end to make sure no soap/residue is left behind.

                  Update!
I let him be for a while because he doesn’t like to be touched under his chin and I didn’t want to stress him more.
A few days later, and the clumps are almost completely gone, either from drinking, eating or I guess washing his face with his paws. There’s still a small patch on his cheek which I will try to clean out with a towel, thank you everyone!
