I have decided to allocate a long section of my garden to my two house rabbits as a permanent run.  I’m not sure how to start.  Does anyone have any ideas of how to make sure it’s secure and not too expensive?  They already have a large hutch for shelter that will go within the rabbit run.  Should I dig under the grass to put some kind of anti digging material in?  What kind of tunnelling could I use for large bunnies?

i used to have my buns out side so i have hutch left over so what i did was cut the legs down on the hutch cuz they were tall, then i bought some strong wire and some posts that you drive into the ground, then we set up the poles connected the wire to the post ( securing it with wire) then we cut a whole in the wire of the hutch and connected a ramp from the hutch to the ground. i would tell you how we made sure they didn’t dig under the fence but its to hard to explain i will post pics of mine on monday.

I plan on making an outdoor run as well.
For mine I plan on putting concrete along the sides, like a little wall, and then i will put wire under it. All will be covered up with dirt and grass, i will make half sand for a more fun digging area. b/c of the concrete barrier and wire underneith they won’t be able to dig out.
Make sure the wire is a thick guage, my rabbits ate through chicken wire with no problems, on the front of their old indoor pens. A roof is a must for protection from preditors.
Can’t wait to see your finished product!

Andi, that sounds like one escape-proof outdoor run. I can’t wait to see YOUR finished product.

Any ideas for a not so “permanent” run? I want an area in my back yard for my bun and I don’t have a clue as how to do it. I don’t want a hutch. Just a play area. Has to be extra safe as my yard isn’t even fenced in and my bun is very fast. There is also a stray cat walking our neighborhood

Oh, I wouldn’t leave my bunny outside alone. It would be when I take my kiddos out to play

While it would take work, I think it would be cool if you dug down a bit, placed some wire and filled it back in. It could give you peace of mind so they couldn’t escape, but they would be able to dig a bit if they wanted. But, then again, I don’t really understand the other suggested ideas, so they are probably a lot better

An outdoor run would be nice here, but I live on a creek and there are so many bugs it would make me a nervous wreck. The snakes have started coming out, too. Guess what my dog brought in the pet door and gave to me as a present yesterday?! …. dead snake….

Be glad it was dead leyley, I had a big cat who would come in through the cat flap with live mice and drop them.

uhh…. once my cat caught a mouse or something and we opened the door to take it away from him and he dashes in the house drops it on the floor and rolls over on his back looking like. ” look what i caught aren’t you proud of me?” its gross!
