How to best protect macbook charger cord?

I’m on my fourth macbook charger because of my bunny. First one got badly mauled, second one died after a few cuts, and third died after one small cut. MacBook chargers cost $80 a pop and although I’ve tried to keep bunny away from it, he just LOVES my apple cords and will go after it ASAP. Yes, I understand that he could have gotten electrocuted and I do try not leaving my charger around him… it’s a bit hard to do that every time I leave my laptop’s side since I am a college student and I use this often. ARGHHH….. I have tried going to a home improvement store and getting plastic tubing, cutting it in the middle, and placing it to protect my charger– it’s definitely rough and makes it hard to pack and store my charger if I ever need to bring to campus/elsewhere. Is there a better a solution to this? If not, Ill just have to settle for the plastic tube.

Since you’ve already bought multiple chargers can you buy *just one more* and keep that one in your laptop bag for when you are away from bunny teeth and keep the covered one at home?

Have you looked for chargers on ebay? I know i can get my laptop cord for cheap on ebay but then I have an HP. (Which i hate)

Perhaps the best solution would be to wrap the cords in the plastic tubing when you are your place and taking it off when you leave? ??? I know it sucks, but that’s all I can think of. lol I try my best to keep cords away from Lolli and my cord is chewed on a bit as well. Sigh. lol

Cover it or only use it when you can watch it? They can’t open drawers so put it away when your done=pain yeah but will protect your investment

Variation on Beka’s suggestion: Keep the currently working charger completely wrapped for use in the room, storing it up high or in a drawer until you take it out. Bring the damaged ones to a Mac store and tell them (bring as many as you’ve bought) what’s happened and how many you now own. Ask if they can repair one of the cords, then keep it in your bag only as a backup. A broken wire is a simple repair with a sauter or splice if someone knows how. It may be covered by your warranty if it’s within a year. Check it out. Otherwise, check out Ebay to get a much cheaper cord to keep stored in the bag.

If you have bunnies, you may as well get used to living a bunny-proofed lifestyle now. It will last for years with very expensive equipment. Walmart sells the wrap around plastic that is spiral, so you don’t need to cut it apart, just wind it around. An annoying half hour to do it is worth a lot of money.

I found a teeny tiny nibble on my brand new Droid X charger cord, not even thru the black rubber yet… Electrical tape. I was cleaning up in my 7-year-olds room and all the PS2 controllers have black electrical tape in at least a couple spots. Same with the alarm clock cords… And these items are in rooms the bunnies don’t normally venture. Sometimes it is a mystery.

well when ur using it you could cover it with a blanket (that’s what i do) or you could get one of those plastic cord covers.

Another place to order stuff i son DHGates.     I got digital camera battery and charger for real cheap.     Plus anti virus key codes from 5-20.00 as well.    They got lots of stuff for electronics there.

You could try Critter Cord. It’s a clear plastic tubing thats scented. Though this stuff is softer so you’d still have to monitor him, but it will give a bit of time to divert him before he gets to the cord.  I use something similar, just clear vinyl tubing and my rabbits don’t seem to be interested in it. If it were across the floor they might have a nibble but mostly I have cords tucked in along the wall.

If you want to stick to what you have, it the cable thin enough you can just drop it thru the tubing? Instead of having to split the tube and push it in? If that works, it’s just a matter of drawing it out each time when you want to take it with you.

I am a college student too and know how frustrating this can be. I have also been through one laptop cord myself (good thing it was not plugged iin when Ringo began to nibble!). Luckily I caught it in time and electric tape fixed it up. I know this may not be the most practical suggestion but eventually this is what I did…. my regular laptop only stayed charged for @ 2 hours at the most and would need to charge again. I splurged and bought a $300 “netbook” that is much more portable, easier to deal w/ in class and best of all it seriously stays charged FOREVER! Plus, it recharges up it no time at all.

I know its hard to spend the extra cash…but I really think it is worth it… here is a link to best buy’s netbook selection:
