My bun is 3.5 months old, (~2lbs), and I have him eating salads twice a day, about 1/4 cup pellets (oxbow, timothy pellets)…I would give him more but he never finishes 1/4 cup, and unlimited hay (timothy, orchard grass, botanical, etc.).  Since he’s still young and I don’t have him eating alfalfa pellets (they were too rich for him so I switched him around 2.5 months old), I give him handfuls of alfalfa hay.  My question is, how much alfalfa hay should he be getting? or how much is too much?  I know every bunny is different with what they need based on size, etc., but he would eat the entire bag if I gave it to him…  I know it’s very rich, so I don’t want to overdo it.

I give him a small handful in the AM and PM, and a little extra for a treat on occasion … but boy does he love it.  I never gave it to my other bun, so I had no idea how obsessed they are with it!  I just hope he doesn’t hate me too much when I stop giving it once he’s older…

        Thanks everyone.

I would just give a small handful.

There isn’t any hard and fast rule for the exact amount. I think a handful is good. Is he eating the timothy hay too?

              Thanks Sarita and Beka..
Yes he eats the timothy hay, I think most of the time when I look in on him he’s munching on a piece… I think he likes hay better than pellets. I’m glad for that. Whatever alfalfa hay I give him, he pretty much eats right away…it’s a small handful. So the rest of the day he has timothy. I guess I’ll reduce to once a day instead of twice.
