Two – Stickers (female mini rex) and Powder (male, REW, no idea on breed). I can’t imagine having 10 or more. 😮

Two. I think two is the perfect number. Much more than that and I think things can get out of hand quickly.

I have 2. I know a lady who fosters approximately 30 at a time, though.

Wow.  That is beyond a full-time job.  The problem, as I see it, is as the number increases (if you’re not very, very diligent!) the quality of care is going to decrease because of time and money constraints.  And fosters don’t always adopt out the rabbits they foster because the demand is so much smaller than the “supply”.

And it’s so easy to acquire rabbits nowadays.  We see this all the time:  You get your first bunny at a breeder.  Then when you go to buy supplies, you find one at a petstore, so you get that one as a buddy for your first.  Then you’re on Craigslist and see a bunny that you feel you need to “rescue”, but then that bun doesn’t get along with the other two, so you need a 4th to pair up with the 3rd.  You’re finally content with 4 bunnies… but then someone you know doesn’t want her bunny anymore, so you take that one in, and that one needs a friend… and the cycle continues.

And if any of those buns are not spay/neutered, then we have a whole new issue.

Of course, in some situations, responsible people can make this work and provide excellent care to all.  But we’ve seen it where it quickly gets overwhelming.

I know this train of thought is slightly off-topic, but these types of threads worry me sometimes.  MORE is not always BETTER.    We would never recommend people get multiple rabbits just for the sake of saying they have X number of rabbits.

She gets a LOT of volunteers who help out every day. The day I met her, she told me that she’d had 3 volunteers at her house that morning helping out.

I have 4 bunderful buns and am thankful for each one of them because they all bring joy into my life. Oreo – The sweetest love bunny in the world! Ziggy – The second sweetest love bunny in the world, even if she is a little shy. Happy – The happiest, bounciest, little adorable bunny in the world. And my little grumpus Fuzzy – The grumpiest little love bun in the world. He will grunt and protest as he settles in for pets – such a grumpy little fuzzball and I wouldn’t want him to be any other way!

                              I have one.

But I would rephrase the question to:

How many slaves do each of your bunnies have?

I have two rabbits. I’d never go back to having just one – it’s so much better for both the bunnies and the humans to have more than one!

The HRS shelter that I volunteer at recently took in 10 rabbits from a lady who was fostering 21 rabbits from another HRS shelter. She died suddenly in her home and was found a couple days later. That would be one of the things that I’d be afraid of if I had that many rabbits…what would happen to all of them if something happened to me. I certainly wouldn’t want them to be split up and taken to multiple shelters, where they may or may not get good homes.

I have 2 minilops. And I have had 2 other people ask me to take rabbits and a chinchilla since I got mine. So sad that so many people think that animal are disposable.

And more than 2 I don’t think I could keep up with the mess!

I have 2 – I had one boy lop, Monty, for a year and a half, but decided he needed a lady friend, so I got Beatrice/Bea, the lion head.

I have one, Vivian (and of course, I still miss Jack so it’s weird to say I just have one as I feel like he’s always around).  When the time is right I will add another but right now Vivian rules the queendom.  I think she could benefit from a friend, but it will be another couple of months before we are ready.

Though I believe that one rabbit can be happy with their human, and some bunnies are solo bunnies, but in general I personally prefer to have two because my own schedule can get hectic and I travel a few times a year and so it relieves me of the guilt –to have two.    LOL ,   But actually, the real reason, well…the important one anyway, is that after having two bunnies, I can see how much they can provide  real unique companionship. Grooming each other throughout the day, exploring together, just hanging out together offers a great deal of companionship. When Jack was sick, Vivian allowed him to lean the front of his body on over her body.  This is something she would have never done in the past because she always thought Jack was trying to mount her (because he alway did), but somehow she knew and just allowed him to rest his head and chest on her.  By keeping his head up on her, he was able to breathe better and get some good sleep.  Those experiences have made me favor two.

I thought I would just have Vivian until her end of days, (and she may choose to have it that way too — only time will tell), but I’ve been rethinking that and feel that I may look for a partner for her in a couple of months or so.   I feel like she would like to have a buddy again as she prefers to cuddle with her toy buddy in the evenings, but at the same time she is very independent and will venture out explore and hang out in the window box like she used to with Jack, and she seems to enjoy it up there by herself.   She was a solo bunny for a long while before she met Jack, so she seems to adjust to it okay.

I also think that if I adopted a solo bunny, that I would be feel okay about keeping him/her solo if i didn’t want to take on another bunny. (as you have to think about extra expenses — vet costs)

I don’t think I would ever do more than 2 again though.  That’s just my personal preference as I know my own habits,  and having only two allows me to spend less time cleaning and more time bonding and spending time with them.   I can focus my attention better on them when I only have two.   I know others do great jobs with more bunnies, but for me it’s best to have just two.

I have 2, Tillie and Toby. I really did not think I wanted a 2nd bun, but when I saw Toby’s pic on the rescue FB page, I just had to have him. And they bonded beautifully. Tillie seemed like she was okay being a solo bun, but now seeing them together makes me so happy she has a husbun. They cuddle, groom and just generally love each others companionship. I think I might venture into fostering, but will never take on more than one foster at a time.

*sigh*… I have two, but I’ll probably get a third once I graduate (in about a year and a half… fingers crossed, haha). Velvateen, who was my first bun, seems to want to fly solo. Any attempts at bonding go 2 steps forward, 3 steps (actaully, more like 10 steps) back. He’s a mama’s bun and I think he really only enjoys my company. Lol. Fievel on the other hand, wants a bud. So the next rabbit I get will be paired with him.

I saw a trailer for the animal hording show and this lady has like 130 rabbits. Just having one drives me up the wall most days. I could not imagine the hell that must be.
