I have a 6 months old Netherland dwarf rabbit that is exactly 2 pounds and I feed him 1 tablespoon of pellets per day. After doing more reasearch I read that people give 1/4 of pellets to their dwarfs. So I’m wondering what other people are feeding their dwarfs and do you think I should be feeding more.

He wasn’t a big hay eater so I talked to my vet a while back when he was getting unlimited and she said to start cutting down from unlimited pellets because he wasn’t getting enough hay and was starting to gain weight. But she never told me how much I should cut him down to.

You could probably double the quantity, but if it’s making a detriment to hay appetite, there’s nothing wrong with the limit.

I kinda eye-ball Wick’s pellets every day. It’s probably two -three tablespoons?

I give my 9 lb bunny a scant 1/4 cup per day, so I think 1/4 cup for 2 lbs is probably a bit too much.

I think 1 tablespoon is probably pretty good for a dwarf. Are you tracking his weight? I think the best way to figure it out would be to weigh him weekly to make sure he isn’t losing too much. I tend to think of pellets as a multivitamin. Adult rabbits don’t need them for calories, but they do make sure they don’t develop any deficiencies.

I’m assuming you are feeding a timothy pellet? And is he eating a good amount of hay now? You can try offering different types of hay (orchard grass, oat, etc.).

Yes I’m feeding Timothy pellets. He eats a good amount of hay now about the size of him.
