I’m wondering how long I should wait to take my rabbit out for playtime and let him jump in things. He has pain Meds just for tomorrow and hes been moving around a lot (sometimes running and binkying). But he’s also chewing the bars wanting out. So how long should I wait to take him out? His long does it take for his incision from his neuter to heal?

It depends (sort of). Is there a way you can remove objects that he can jump on?

I had my male neutered on 8/24. He was acting nuts to get out of his cage so I just made sure there was nothing he could jump on in my room and let him out. If you can’t do that, then I think about 3 days at least. He needs to get the healing process going before exerting himself.

My bed is quite high off the ground so he can’t make that jump anyway because he is tiny. But idk about your situation.

            Thanks.
I was thinking of waiting until he medication is gone until letting him out. My bed is just about 2 feet tall and he just figuered out a week ago how to jump up on to it. So I am worried he will jump on to it if I let him out. I will probably wait a couple more days so he heal a little more.

My vet’s recommendation, which understandably is the recommendation always given to be completely safe, was “No jumping or climbing for one week”.

              — So, Wick stayed free-roam, but I wouldn’t let him jump on the sofa or bed. I removed his high-wall on his litter boxes so he had a low lip to step in.

Notably, Wick had no swelling or irritation after the surgery, which the vet said was really unusual but extraordinary, so he healed very quickly and was back to normal behavior. At the post-op visit on Day 7 following the surgery, admittedly I told the vet Wick was back to jumping and climbing after 2 days, but the vet said it was fine based on his healing and the fact that I regularly checked his stitching to ensure nothing was tearing.

I would try keeping him in then if he’s going to jump on the bed. Quincy was let back into the living room on day 3 and he jumped up on the couch, which he had actually never done before! He must have been feeling good to make that jump. He seemed to be in a little discomfort after that so he got some more metacam and he was totally fine after that. But, I would say that you should try to keep him from jumping for at least a few days. Could you possibly prop the mattress up against the wall when you’re not using it? Idk what kind of bed you have…I can’t manage it at all, I have a tempurpedic bed and my god those things are HEAVY.
