I just got my two bunny babies neutered in Saturday and I was wondering what is the usual length of cage confinement that is recommended for post surgery. The only reason I ask is that that are used to coming out of their cages everyday when I come home from work, but I don’t want them to hurt themselves by bouncing around too much so soon after their surgeries. They just are so hyper and have taken to bouncing around their cages and acting normal again, aside from having a little difficulty lying down. Should I let them out for some free time now or wait a few more days?

I’d say a week to play it safe. Bucks recover fairly well from neuters. I personally think some time out of cage is ok, maybe block of areas they might jump up onto and supervise. Being stuck in the cage and becoming bored, they might do damage to their stitches anyway.   Try check the surgery site for pulled stitches, infection or swelling.

Hank you so much for the link and he advice. I think I will block a section off in front of their cages for some play time. I usually move them to the kitchen for their free time but I don’t think I will stress them with the carriers until they ate fully healed

I know with my female, I didn’t keep her quiet enough and had to take her back to the vet about a week after surgery because her stiches were bleeding and oozing. She was a running and jumping machine. So really limit the amount of activity if you can for a female.

Do they even have stitches? My vet does them without, not even glue. Nothing. The incision is so tiny it closes right up.
