I got my boy bunnies TZ and Thumper at the same time, they were pals up until recently they when they started fighting (Most likely because they weren’t fixed yet.) We had an appointment for the vet to get them fixed but it wasn’t for another week so we had to seperate them
We just got them fixed today and I want to know how long I have to wait before I can put them back together again. I’m afraid they’ll lose their bond if I wait too long and but I don’t want them fighting if I put them together too soon.
I know alot of people suggest putting the cages next to each other but I can’t put their cages together because Thumpers cage is a floor cage and TZ was left in the old cage which is up off the floor a good two feet.

Can you set Thumpers cage on something to raise it 2 feet? Ideally keep them separated while they heal. You won’t want them moving about too much and any chasing going on. Also, it’s easier to monitor their post-neuter food intake and poop output while separated. The hormones also take some time to leave their systems. Up to a month??? I think after 2 weeks, after healed, you could try let them have some play time together and assess where they’re at. Correct me if I wrong in this anyone.

I think you’re spot on with that jerseygirl! Though I do remember that the vet that did my mom’s rabbits said that her rabbits would have to be apart for a full month because of how large the he-bits were on one of them and how crazy he was. They said that if these were two normal rabbits then a closely supervised visit might be possible, but they really shouldn’t be left alone until a month anyways.

I would also agree with 2 weeks being the absolute MINIMUM. 4 weeks would be better. You can try switching them between the cages each day so they continue to be in shared space and neither becomes territorial over one cage or another. Yes, maybe in two weeks, let them out together and see how they react and as long as they are not overexerting themselves, do some bonding sessions daily until you reach that 4 week mark and see if they can be housed together at that point.

Thank you all for the advice I can’t put Thumpers cage up… it’s kinda biiiig. But I like the idea of switching them between the two cages. They go back to the vet in two weeks so that seems about a right amount of time to wait.
