how do i catch him

Not sure if you all remember the post a while back I made about the loose bunnies in my neighborhood. I have been finding this bunny in my yard lately and we just had our first frost last night. I cant go near him or he will run. He is very skiddish. I want to catch him and need any possible ideas. I was thinking of putting morelands old cage outside with a shipping blanket on the top and a towel inside with some hay to see if he will at least sleep in there. What about a humane live animal trap?

We just caught a bunny

Here’s what we did. There were three of us, and first got an area set up that he could run into but not escape (beside the house) and blocked the areas around the fence so she couldn’t get under. Then one of had a big light fibreboard and we got her in that run beside the house and blocked the two ends off. Then I used a towel and made several ungraceful attempts to throw it over her and catch her, while she ran back and forth through the run (but she was trapped). I finally made a dive, got the towel on her and picked up in a very angry and frantic bunny burrito. Someone brought me my carrier (as I didn’t want to risk her leaping out of the burrito) and we got her in the carrier. It only took half an hour and the bunny had been loosed for months.

Sooo basically you need to herd them into an area they can’t escape from then throw a towel over them. Good luck!!!

sounds like a good plan, i would set up a big cage with loads of yummies in and just wait for him to go in there, have the door open by like a string so u can close it without going near it and close it when he’s inside, and presto! bunny!

Ok, quick story:

I told you all I’ve always wanted a bunny. Well one day I decided (as a kid) to trap one. So I put a box out with a carrot and a harmonica. My thought: The rabbit would run in the box to get the carrot and he’d be breathing fast so he’d blow on the accordian and I’d hear and go catch my bunny-in-a-box.

gets better. My dad, the goof, tells me I’m doing it wrong. If I want to catch a bunny I need to dig a whole then put a small cloth over it, and cover it with leaves and grass.

Then my parents are SURPRISED when they arrive home the next day and I have eleven neighborhood kids in the yard digging holes in the lawn ‘to catch bunnies!! ”

K&K that’s an awesome story!   You should produce a childrens book based on that. All proceeds could go to the Hoppy Endings.

Too funny, maybe if you had of caught a bunny, you wouldn’t have all the lucky bunnies you’ve rescued now & the bunny world would be worse off.

LOL I can still remember the look on my parents face when they came home that day… LOL!! Dad grounded us, Mom ungrounded us as it was his idea hehehe

well, your dad didn’t think you’d be “OUTSOURCING!” hilarious!

we “caught” a baby bunny when i was about ten. we were leaving school, and in the parking lot there was a baby bunny sitting underneath one of the car tires, kind of wedged up against it. we walked over and picked it up (yes, it was about that easy) and we put it in an umbrella, open and carried upside down (it had rained earlier that day.) of course the parents were like “NO!” so we called my grandpa (who has nursed many an animal to health) and he took her, fed her, kept her in a large tupperware storage container in his kitchen, and we let the bunny go about a month later. she lived on my grandpa’s 4 acres (where i now live) for at least a few years. she even had little baby bunnies.

that was my first bunny experience…
