Hey eeveryone! i was just online wondering, every bunny gets their name from somewhare? how did ur bunnies get names?!

Toby: i got his name because he just looked and fitted the whole look and charecter of that  name! ( i dont know why he just did!)

Babe: when i first got her , from the RSPCA her name was mary, didnt realy suit her and she was grunting ( not very happy) but it reminded me of a picg and i dont know wethere u all have ever seen ‘ Babe’ or ‘Babe in the city’ its about a pig and since she snorted like one on the first day i had her quite a bit i thought PIG… and the famous film babe just made me give her the name Babe!

        What about you?

One of my pet nicknames for my first bunny was Bunnykins, and my mother loved that name so she asked me to use it. I had found Samantha on Halloween, so in honor of our first meeting I wanted her to have a good witch name, and I always liked Samantha from Bewitched. So she is officially Samantha Bunnykins.

Mango – he came with that name. I like it though, I like food names for some weird reason.

Toffee was part of a pair that I named Toffee & Twizzler. They came from the shelter as Flower & Yogi and they had no idea which name was for which rabbit and I really didn’t care for those names…normally, I would just let them keep their names that they came with but I just didn’t think Yogi was very feminine.

            Peaches & Peppermint – I like food.

Bobby and Bogie came with their names.

I like your food names, too.
Actually, Bobby should have been Betty, for Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart. Yogi should only go with Boo Boo. Flower was a skunk with Bambi.
(Hey – Boo Boo, Bobby, Betty, Bogie, Bambi…) If you get a friend for Toffee and Twizzler it could be Tootsie (roll). Peaches, Peppermint, Pancake, Pickles…this is fun.

I don’t think Bobby wants to be called Betty LOL. What does Betty have to do with Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart though?

For reasons I cannot explain, Lauren’s nickname all her life has been Betty, ie. Betty Bacall. His nickname was Bogie. I read her biography years ago. She was his second, and last, wife. She was 18 and he was in his early 40s when they met on To Have and Have Not.

Bobby is my brother’s name. He wouldn’t like to be called Betty either.

I knew that about Bogie but not Betty. I always called them Bogie and Bacall.

That’s cause of the song. I called them Bogie and Bacall, but they never called Back….

Lauren Bacall was actually her stage name, she was born Betty Joan Perske.  Bacall was her mother’s last name which became her last name when her parents were divorced.   But Lauren was purely a stage name. From my understanding most of her friends called her Betty off camera.  I’m a big classic movie fan and a total dork about it.

I named my bunnies, Kate and Spence after Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy.  They are two of my favorite actors either together or apart.  Plus they were already bonded when I adopted them so naming them as a couple seemed appropriate!

We just picked Otto randomly – we like slightly unusual people names for pets, and DH came up with Otto and we liked it.

When we got Hannah, her name was Merlin, but we didn’t think it was fitting (at least not for a girl bun). I read a story as a kid called “Hannah is a Palindrome” (that also involved a boy named Otto) so I decided to stick with the palindrome naming theme. DH says our next one should be called Racecar. Lol

Peppy was named after a video game character from the series Starfox; “Peppy Hare” was a rabbit character that looked like a blue Dutch just like my little girl.

I’m not sure how we came up with Remi…my sister picked the named.

Milo was kind of random, we were in need of a new name because his name was “Ninja” at the shelter, which I didn’t really like. I was looking at name lists somewhere online, and Milo just kind of jumped out at me and seemed appropriate.

rue- we started out with “ruby”, from the max and ruby cartoon. within a day or two, it had been shortened to rue. i call her rue-dini (she’s an escape artist) and rue ba-doo.

nut puppet- he came with the name “tiny”, which i knew wasn’t going to work. i asked goose what she thought we should call him, and she said puppet. i tried talking her out of it, but she was adamant. i waited a while thinking she would loose interest in the name (she *is* only three!). instead, she decided he looked like nut brown hare (from the book, “guess how much i love you” ), and added the “nut” to his name. i wanted to call him attila the bun, but goose won!

Maddie came with her name and I thought it was cute so I kept it. When I got Minnie she was a baby and she looked like a mini Maddie so I named her Minnie.

I was looking through pet name websites and I saw Tait and I was like that’s it! Then I was watching an episode of sex and the city and aiden called his son tater-tot so it stuck

Ginju got named from saying Jingo over and over again and ny mistake saying Ginju and I liked it better then Jingo so she got it by me making it up with the help of repeating a name I thought I liked.

Atticus came with his name and I liked it so I kept it

Badger somehow reminds me of a badger so well, that’s that.

My husband had Leopold picked out as a name before we even got the rabbit to go with it. His name is Leopold Bunners. If you watch South Park, then I’m sure you’ll figure out how he came up with that name.

Mr. Wooly, aka Wooly, came with his name. He looks like a Mr. Wooly though, so I didn’t change the name. It has a nice ring to it when you’re scolding him about something. My husband likes to call him Sweaters though, but he’s done that with several of our pets (just calls them something else hoping it will eventually stick).

Romeo~ I had no idea what to name him and nothing caught on. I found that he loved to eat Romaine lettuce so I came up with variations of “Romaine”~

Apricot~ I don’t have her anymore but I named her from her fur color. She’s back at the rescue group now and they’ve kept her name!

Tigerlily~ She had a funny orange spot as opposed to her creamy color on her forehead. (It’s gone now because her fur changes color all the time). Her temper also reminded me a tiger, sometimes, and a sweet lily, other times.

OMG you beat me to it, I was so going to make one of these threads.

My husband and I are anime fans. In an anime called Fruits Basket, there is a family that is under a curse, and long story short some members transform into animals of the Chinese zodiac. The boy who represents year of the rabbit is named Momiji. Being as how we got Momo in the beginning of the year, and it coincidentally is year of the rabbit, we named her after him. We just changed it to Momo. (Momiji = boys name) Momo is also a popular pet name in Japan and means “peach”.

Monkey was named Monkey because she loved to climb onto everything, and be on top of the world looking over her kingdom.. she still does that She’s my little monkey bun!

Moose was named by the BB people, Moose is a good name for him. Usually slow and deliberate.. and he’s the Big Man of the house

Smudge has a grey smudge across her face. I would have given her an animal name to match the others, but she was a foster bun, she wasn’t supposed to stay Now I call her my Smudge Bug

Squirrel… well. He’s going to be Moosie’s buddy when he gets bigger. Moose and Squirrel. It just fits.

I do not know if this counts but, I am going to most likely pick a name out of the list of names for bones that I made a while ago.  I really like them and I think that they are very interesting sounding plus there are  many different ones for both males and females.  Examples are Vomer, Palatine, Ossicles, Maxilla, Lacrimal, Ulna, Tibia, Atlas, Ischium, Lunate, Calcaneus, Humerus, Radius, and Talus.  There are more but they do not sound like names that could be used.  I really like, Vomer, Palatine, and Ischium.  So the first and last might work for the bunny I am looking at.  If not, I guess I could also keep Star or name him something else astronomical.  They have beautiful names as well: Akashic, Antiscia, Athazer (I like this one), et cetera. Or quantum names such as Quarks, Hadron, Pauli, Charm (as in charm quark), et cetera.  And for the last name, well for us, I know that we are going to put Reinhold because that is my fiance’s last name and it will be a few years before the wedding but still, our bunny companion will have a head start!  So yeah, I try to use names I think are interesting as well as try to fit them to the personality.

Chacha’s name came to mind when I first saw her picture.

Her given name is ‘Koucha’ It is a japanese name for ‘black tea.’ She is often called Chacha bun. A lot of people laugh at the name when I tell them.

I ACTUALLY BOUGHT MY BUNNY!!!!! i spent the night at a shelter run by a friend who is near and dear to my heart in this crappy time i am going through. ANYWAY he came with the name Denmark, and for some reason it makes me think of doughnuts.

well this big black male bunny was shy and wouldnt show personality. a complete mystery to me but we clicked imediatly, we both need each other equily. and so i needed a name that screamed mystery but wouldnt be the typical name for a black animal (shadow and night for example) .

my friend at the shelter was sooo happy that i had found the bunny that makes me laugh and dries my tears when i feel hopeless (the same day he did just that) that she gave me a book about rabbits called ‘Rabbits gentle hearts valiant spirits’ by Marie Mead and Nancy LaRouche. you should look into this book its amazing, and i was just flipping through it with my no-named black bunny lounging on my lap when i flipped to the very back page.

it had the press name on it. it was names Nova Maris Press. and it fit! but he is a boy and Nova just fit this little fuzzy mystery. thus his name is Nova (although i call him Novio, the spanish word for ‘boyfriend’. im trying to stop though as i have a guinea pig names Romeo. i dont want too many “io”s around the house)

BUT… i cant take Nova home yet because although i honestly need him here with me, my father (part of the problem in the first place) wont let me get a rabbit. but my mom said “you will get this bunny, not today, maybe not even this month. but he will be your bunny!” when she saw us together and saw him make me stop crying by blowing soft short breaths in my ear and tickling me with his wiskers and making me laugh. he knew what he was doing too because as soon as i laughed and i rubbed my cheeks on his fuzzy sholder blade to dry my tears he flopped dramaticly onto my lap and kicked a foot out behind him. i slapped the money for him onto the table imediatly. he is mine, but he isnt with me. i see him this weekend though

well thats the long story of my boyfriend bunny Nova

You KNOW Moose will always be bigger, right?

Chacha’s name came to mind when I first saw her picture.

Her given name is ‘Koucha’ It is a japanese name for ‘black tea.’ She is often called Chacha bun. A lot of people laugh at the name when I tell them.

We call Momo “Momo-bun”, because of the Japanese name suffix thing.

Like Rocky and Bullwinkle! hehe. Chubs was just something we pulled out of nowhere. I love his name! We call him Chubbers a lot too. Then Comet came along and he was actually chubbier than Chubs but that was taken. He was no-name for a few weeks and I don’t remember how we settled on Comet. We realized recently that neither of us love his name so we are not sure how we settled on it. Haha. So random…I call him sweetie a lot though, he’s just such a softie and he doesn’t have an agressive bone in his body. He is also scared of his own shadow so I often call him scaredy bun!

I liked the name so decided to use it. Panko got his name from the japanese breadcrumbs. I was pretty hungry when I got him and was thinking about panko breaded foods and he’s about the right color so the name stuck.

Mr. Bingley’s name came from my favorite book–Pride and Prejudice. I guess its technically Charles Bingley, but I’m saving the first name for when he gets old. Its more distinguished. I had him for a about 4 hours before I could pick a name. His nature was very friendly and he was absolutely the most adorable thing I have seen. So, Mr. Bingley being my favorite character from my favorite book, I gave Bing his name.

Now that I know him better though, Rascal is more accurate.

We needed a gender neutral name since we weren’t sure of our bunny’s sex. When I first saw her she was sitting up boldly in her pen, looking at everyone who entered the room. People were reaching into her pen and petting her and recklessly carrying her around on their shoulders. That image of her fearlessness stuck with me. I thought of calling her Bravery or Courage, but they sounded more appropriate for a big dog than a little rabbit, so I searched for words in other languages that meant “brave.” “Hodari”, which is Swahili, sounded cute, so that’s what we went with. I can’t think of anything that would better suit my brave little Lionhead.

Jersey is from Jersey Caramels, a sweet. She has the same colouring. I think the sweets are named that from the Jersey cow. The packets often have a cow pic on them.

Rumball came with a name but I wasn’t super keen on it. So his name is another sweet – Rum Balls – and it matches his looks. I often think I should have named him George though.

TimTim is a variation of Timothy, a bunny I’d seen on here who had the grey chinchilla colouring. I kept trying different names that suited his looks but nothing fit. I kinda had TimTim as his default name. After 2 weeks nothing else stuck and eventually I got more used to TimTim. Apparently that was just his name. Kafrn likes to call him TimTam so I guess that keeps the food theme.

My ex is the one who bought him and thought of the name. Nothing else seemed to fit. He has so many nicknames, but for the most part I call him “V” or “V-man”.

Now that he’s older, Gus (from Cinderella) would have been a better choice. He just looks like a Gus-Gus. Hehe. I mostly call him Glomper though, as he just glomps down the hall for treats.
