Okay, well I kinda got bobo in the habit in where I wake up and I open his cage, and after I come back from brushing my teeth and taking a shower he waits for me and begs me for a treat, if I don’t give him anything he just follows me everywhere or well try to stand up and climb up onto me, and now he’s been doing it everyday for either the store treats or 2-3 grapes, and I having a hard time resisting his begging face, how can i stop from giving him treats??

What are some healthy foods that I could give him when hes begging for food, because I don’t wanna dissapoint him and give him something he doesnt like.

It IS very hard to resist happy little bunny faces all gooey eyed for treats. But I try to think of how fat my bunny is going to be if I indulge him in too many goodies and that usually stops me in my tracks. I just give out extra head pets instead and he really likes that.
If that doesn’t work for your bunny, please look up the recommended herbs and other treats on this website (see Diet in the Bunny Info section on the green toolbar at the top of the page) for some great ideas on what to feed (or not to feed) your rabbit.

You could also try giving him a chew stick, like an unpeeled willow ball or something like that. It’s a kind of edible toy.

Whenever my bun is hungry, I grab his food dish (if there are pellets left) and just hand feed him some of those. He doesn’t seem to realize that they’re not treats. Maybe next time to go to feed him, give him some of his pellets by hand as “treats” before you put the bowl down.

Rocky loves those nutty willow balls at the petstore… He also loooooves the fruity balsa chews from this website…

Does anybody give blueberries to their buns? I bought 2 pints of blueberries about a month ago (buy one get one free at the store that day) and since I had so many I had to put them in the freezer. I discovered that he prefers them frozen, so now I give him a frozen one once in a while as a treat and he absolutely loves it! I can’t get him to eat much real fruit as an occasional treat other than that… (I’d rather give him a small piece of a fruit than some of the cruncy boxed treats they make. I figure fruit is healthier, in moderation, of course)!

Fruit is pretty high in sugar, which is why it shouldn’t be fed to bunnies too often. But I have to admit, Mimzy would dance for dried blueberries. I do give him fresh ones from time to time and oddly enough, he doesn’t seem to connect that the two items are the same. He will eat them frozen, but I have to squish it for him first so it doesn’t just roll all over the floor.
What kind of ‘nutty’ treats are you using, JR? I think nuts are indicated as not good for rabbits.
Willow balls are great ! ^_^ But my ‘destructo buns’ are way too good at mangling them before they have even finished rolling across the cage floor! ^_^

Oh I am so bummed out I had a whole reply typed out and lost it! Ok, here’s the short of it: I don’t feed him any nuts or seeds, the nutty willow ball is a woven ball of raw willow that has 2 nuts in their shells inside that rattle together when you play with the ball… Any seeds or nuts are no-nos, right? Rocky does love Vitakraft Lofty’s, here’s a link. I crush one up and use it when I’m training Rocky and he loooooves them. He will even lick the tiny crumbs out of my hand, so cute!

Wait… seeds and nuts are bad? I bought this “gourmet rabbit food” awhile back that had seeds in it in addition to some dried fruit and pellets. It’s almost gone now, but I’ve been feeding it to Thumper for awhile now. Given she didn’t like the seeds too much, I bought her some of the usual stuff. But still, why and how are they bad? I’m worried now that she’s been eating it and I had no idea.

Edit:  I looked up the diet part of the site and now I know it’s “like M&Ms” for rabbits.  I will no longer buy gourmet rabbit food.
