I just brought home my first bunny on Saturday. She’s a two and a half month old Holland lop, and as a first time bunny parent I’ve been doing a TON of research! Right now she has free run of my living room and office, where her “bedroom” is. Her food, water, hay, and litter box are in a large dog crate which opens up to an x pen that I only close at night or when I’m not home. Right now, she mostly hangs out in the dog crate where she likes to take naps
My concern is that she seems to pant a lot when she’s laying in her crate. I keep my apartment between 68 and 70 degrees and her living space is not near a window where she would be getting a lot of sunlight. I do have a fleece on her crate floor so that she can get traction when she’s hopping around- could this be heating her up too much? She doesn’t seem interested in napping in her bed, so she mostly sleeps on the fleece.
I hope I’m not overreacting! I just want to make sure she’s perfectly happy and healthy!
