So, currently I have 3 rabbits… Bonnie, Clyde, and Waffles. (as you can prob. tell I only intended to have 2, and Waffles was a recent addition) Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge to share on appropriate housing for all 3 of them together. Currently Bonnie & Clyde have a playpen together that they’ve been happily sharing for about 8 months, and Waffles who I’ve only had for 3 weeks now is in her own cage on the other side of the room, bc she hasnt been spayed yet, and doesnt exactly like Bonnie >.< I'll work on that though...

Anyway, my question is about housing, I was thinking of getting rid of the big pen, becuase whenever I’m home its open and they have free run of the upstairs anyway, and whenever I’m out they seem to break out of it! And I’d like to keep them in something roomie enough for 3 eventually….

any advice? I was looking at this:

Have you looked at the ‘Cool Habitats’ section on this site? Go to ‘Bunny Info’ at the top and click on it. There are many great housing solutions, and very adaptable, depending on the space you want to give them. The condos are pretty sturdy and you can make it with a top so no breaking-out.
          How old is Waffles?

ohhh i’ll go check that out now!

and i’m not sure of her exact age, but she’s around 5-7 months old. I acquired her bc one of my brother’s friends thought it would be “cool” to get a rabbit… and she was living in a small hamster sized cage, not given hay, given iceberg lettuce and DOG FOOD?!?!?! and was just in miserable condition… so i confiscated her haha! she was, needless to say, not a planned addition to my family, but i have to keep her.. shes so adorable and has the best little personality!!

I’m glad you “confiscated” her! Are you able to have her spayed soon?
Do you have any photos of her?

Def go to the cool habitats section. If you have the skill to put together any sort of simple furniture you can build your own just like that for a fraction of the cost of the ebay one! And if you don’t have the skills, there are plenty of step by step sites if you scroll down a little on the cool habitats page.

                  Hi SnuggleBunny,

I am from the Jersey shore area as well!  I have 2 bunnies that I’ve had since March.  They were recently spayed at the end of May.

I built their enclosure using the NIC grids and cable ties – works perfectly!  On the floor I use an 4×8 piece of corrugated plastic that I bought from a sign store.  I put fleece over that with lots of litter boxes inside to encourage good potty habits.  They get “out” time each evening for an hour or 2 depending on my schedule.

                  Just wanted to say hi!

                    Dog food? Seriously, some people…..
The grid condo you posted about is pretty popular around here and easy to build yourself and reconfigure. I would hold onto your pen though! It could have many future uses – bonding pen, bunny proofing device etc.

I would absolutely keep the pen!  They can fold up for storage and even if you’re not using it right now, it is a good thing to have on hand just in case.  You can also use the pens for blocking access to an off-limits area, they don’t just have to be for containing bunnies.

If you decide you don’t want to do do a NIC condo, you can use the pen you have, get another one and make them a double pen.  That would be plenty of living space for 3.  It’s a good thing to have some kind of area for them where they can be confined, and so they can have their own space.

My pair live in a double xpen (4 x 8 feet).  The door is kept open thru out most of the day, but they will often choose to nap or lounge in there.

                        WOW thanks everyone!
i dont have any pictures of the little girl yet, but i’ll definately get some up asap!
i didnt realize i could just go buy these cube things and make my own little home for them! haha i’m definately going to look into that. … and putting sign material on the floor is sheer genius bc my mom is going crazy about her hardwood flooring and little smapering bunnies all over the place haha!

and yeah, they were taking terrible care of her! and it definately affected her! she is super territorial now and lunges and nips when you stick your hand in her cage and doesnt like when you touch her food or water even to change it! she probably thinks youre taking it away! and she gets along with clyde bc he’s so mellow but her and bonnie arent exactly the best of friends yet 0.o i feel like somehow i can make it work!!!

and that double pen is just bigger than what i have now… i would say its about 4 by 5, i’ll post a picture of that too! i wasnt going to throw out the pen, i was going to make that a protected area for them to play outside, since it came with a cover!

my main question was really like, would a rabbit cage be as suitable for rabbits with space going up off of the floor, and like a 4 x 2 or 3 base, and plenty of stories to adventure in and such, becuase they have to live in my room until i move out ( i’m 20, and working on finishing up college and getting out of my parents house) and i dont have too much more floor space for their area…

i meant scampering, not smapering whatever that is! haha

You can definitely build UP rather than OUT. It’s an excellent alternative for people with limited space! Bunnies like to view their world from up high (and this way they can look down upon us lowly humans… lol!) As long as they all get some out of cage exercise time everyday so they can run around and stretch their legs, multiple levels work great for a cage!

That’s cool your pen has a cover, SnuggleBunny. I want one of those covered pens… — what kind of cover is it?

                                petzy, this is the pen:

                                http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751767

                                and this is the cover:

                                http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2751770&keepsr=0&clickid=prod_cs

so when they are outside romping i can feel better about it

and i am so glad i can build up & not out bc slowly but surely my bedroom is turning into the bunny’s room where my bed just so happens to be haha!!
and of course they’ll get time out of their pen! but i’m excited now to build my own!!

I don’t visit Petsmart at all, they don’t ship to Canada most items and the closest store is a two-hour drive for me, so I didn’t know this one. I like that it’s a two-in-one, cover for shade and bottom to prevent digging. My bun Mops *will*, with certainty, dig out!

–I only knew this product and I don’t like the idea. It’s a mesh cover.

yeah the one i have looks significantly smaller than that one, which is more of an acurate size for me becuase now i have 3 ! where is that one from?
i’m not entirely sure about how i’d feel about a mesh cover… and it has no bottom…
