House Setup for Baby Bunny Who Likes to Pee Everywhere.

Hi there! I’m new here. We got a 2.5 month old Holland Lop over the weekend. He’s very sweet and quiet. We got him home and he’s been a bit shy, mostly staying in his litter box resting. He does come out to eat and drink. We let him run around in the mornings, for a bit in the afternoon, and then again in the evening – he does hop around a bit but usually just finds one spot and sits there

 My question is about his house setup. I know that until he’s neutered, litter box training will be difficult. He pees all over his cage and if he is out in the living room. If he does pee (and is a poo machine) in the living room, I put him back in his house. I’ve put his fresh poos and some wiped pee in his litter box as well. I’ve moved his litter box around but he will choose to sleep in the litter box, poop a whole bunch in there, but when it’s time to pee, he hops out and pees anywhere but in there. In the morning, his floor is covered in pee.

 I’m wondering what is the best option here until we can get him neutered and start getting him litter box trained to where he begins to understand. I know 3 months is very young. But is there any clean-ish solution to setting up his box if he insists on peeing outside of his litter box and spending the entire rest of the time sleeping in his litter box? Flooring? Tips? Tricks? Or do I just clean up the pees all day long until he’s older? Looking forward to any advice! Thanks so much

Are you putting hay in the litter box? Rabbits eat hay and do their business at the same time. Also ensure the the business and of the box is comfortable with some carefresh. I also encourage positive renforcement whenever bandit gets on his box with a ‘good boy’ or if he’s near it ‘litter box ‘

Some rabbits take awhile to litter train however spaying or neutering him shouldn’t be a factor cause he’s so young it’s simply a matter of he needs to understand where to go. As for the poops if it’s 1 or two he’s just marking his territory and leave it for a bit then move it when he’s not looking. Before he pees rabbits normally lift up their rumps and raise their tail so that’s a tell tell sign he’s going to go.

If your playspace is large try getting two boxes so in case he can’t make it to one he can make it to another. I also have pics of how mine is below in the signature if you need ideas

Yes we have fresh hay on top of about an inch of carefresh. The thing is he’s never not in the litter box unless he’s getting a quick sip of water. He sleeps in it, poops in it, but definitely doesn’t pee in it. When he’s out roaming the living room, it’s not one or two poops. It’s like 50. They are everywhere in a matter of 10 minutes. We cleaned his house and had to run errands, by the time I got home the entire floor of his house had spots where he went pee (not just in one area). And not a single wet spot in his litter box. It’s like that’s his bed and he doesn’t want to pee in his bed or something? I don’t know. But it’s just such a mess. And yes the poos on the floor. Everywhere. Every second they pop out. Anything else I could try?
