I’ve probably mentioned this before (because I always do!) But I got to go ‘horse-back swimming a couple of years ago in Kelowna, BC. I found a link to their site today so I thought I’d share. I believe my pics are on disc, so I’ll try to throw those up tonight too!!

Check out the link though, coolest thing I’ve ever done!

That sounds like a blast.  Love riding.  Used to go to the lake with them.  Didn’t swim tho ehehee. At least I didn’t.

That brings back memories from my horse-back riding days. We would ride our horses down to the lake and go swimming with them. It was so much fun!

It looks like such an incredible place!! And look at you, our Canadian goddess. So how do the horses generally react to going into the water?

I have the same question as BB. Do the horses like going in the water? Do they refuse when they don’t want to? I’ve never heard of horse swimming!

I’m not sure of most horses liking it or not, what they do is have a few horses who do like it, so you all ride down on your horse and they ‘pony’ (ie. lead one horse along while on horse back) that does like swimming and then you all swim on that horse.

You just ride the horse in and out of the water, (they lead the horse while wearing flippers) and once the horse starts to swim you dismount and swim beside. It’s quite a challenge to get back on the horse when it’s coming out of the water, it took me three tries. It was really really neat!!! The horse we rode really seemed to like it! Have you ever watched The Black Stallion? Horses do naturally swim, and I saw this video on youtube (I’ll see if I can find it) this horse actually broke into a resort and swam in the pool!! They also do water therapy for horses…K, here’s some vids!

and here’s the horse who hopped in a pool!
