I can’t tell you how excited I was to open up my neighborhood newspaper over the weekend and find Kay & Winston on the front cover!

The North Denver Tribune has a “Pet of the Week” column. About 75% of the pets in this column are dogs, the rest of course, are cats. So, I thought it would be great to submit my bunny’s – you know get a good positive article out there about bunny’s!

There was a photo and caption on the front page plus, the article inside with another photo. The article was even a little longer than usual. Probably because the editors were so surprised what House Rabbits are actually like.

        Yea, Kay & Winston!

BTW – The North Denver Tribune comes out twice a month.

Wow, hopefully this will result in some more interest in bunny adoptions in your area!  Winston and Kaye are officially a celebrity couple.

The paper does not have a web site.

I’m hoping this will spark some intrest in the CO-HRS!

Here is the info I origanaly sent them – they edited very little – And the photos they chose:

Kay (a 4 year old Hotot Mix – white) & Winston (a 2 year old Dutch – black & white) were adopted by Victoria & Jeremy in February 2008 from the Colorado House Rabbit Society. Victoria & Jeremy have never had pet bunny’s before and are contently amazed how sweet affectionate and what distinct personalities they have.

Kay was very shy at first but, she now loves to explore and craw on Victoria & Jeremy. Winston is a sweet little goof ball, who makes every one laugh.

Kay & Winston are such good bunny’s (they don’t chew & are fully litter trained) they are allowed to roam the whole house all day long. At night they sleep in a large pen (in the living room) with several shelves for them to jump on or hid underneath. They have pellets for breakfast, a great big salad for dinner (hold the dressing, please) and munch on hay all day!

These two funny bunny’s love to entertain their parents by dash madly across the living room, running in zig-zags or circles and preforming Binky’s (a joyful leap in the air usually including a 180 degrees turn). Kay & Winston also enjoy hiding out in boxes, snuggling, being kissed and petted, playing with their slinky, and chewing on willow branches.

The article is great. Very positive! Congrats. Does the paper have Letters to Editor section? Be interesting to see peoples responses. You might get chance to bust some more negative myths about bunnies as pets.

Rachel – thank goodness for editors! I just noticed the part about being “contently amazed”.

I have sever dyslexia – I spell everything phonetically and could not live with out spell check. One of my brothers – his dyslexia is even worse than mine – and I were even part of a well known study that helped to prove it is hereditary!

Spell check has reduced my spelling capacity to 0. It’s very sad but true. Five years ago I was a great speller, now I just can’t do it. (I have no reason, I’m just lazy) Lucky I’m learning Hindi, which is a phonetic language so I just sound it out & write it down I think it annoys people in exams though…

I have a lot easier of a time expressing my thoughts through written words, but even the best make mistakes too! And trust me, I can’t say things nearly as well out loud! I am glad that I grew up in a really great school district though. I would say I’m kind of a grammar whore, but I make the same mistakes still!

I grew up in a terrible school district so grammar and spelling was pushed aside to concentrate on teaching people how to read. I’m serious that in year 9 there were still people who could not read.

Sage_Cat, my dad and brother have severe dyslexia, so they have the same problems with spelling. My brother is an incredibly talented artist and he is an amazing speaker, not elequent but quick thinking and able to retort to anything thrown at him in miliseconds. I like to think this is because he was never able to express himself through written word and he makes up for it by being a cheeky little brat!

Anyway that was a little rambling…

I am my family’s walking dictionary. I get hit up for spelling, pronunciation and synonyms on a daily basis. It wears thin. >.<

But of course, if I volunteer any corrections, I get a load of dung for it. ~_~ My mom was a stickler for good grammar and I guess it rubbed off.

I am verbally dyslexic. (I stutter and reverse words in sentences.) It is horribly embarrassing, I sometimes just CAN NOT get anything out of my mouth without screwing it up. My family thinks it’s hilarious. And I’ve tried the old ‘tongue twister’ therapy and it just makes it worse.

I remember reading about some exercises that promoted “brain switching”. Designed to train the left and right sides of the brain to talk to each other better. Have you ever tried anything like this? Guess it’s like that old trick “pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time”.
