I have one spoiled bunny, he gets his alfalfa pellets in the morning, hay all day and then a bedtime treat every night. He knows when its time for his treat, the TV turns off, I brush my teeth, and he starts going crazy in his cage. I worry that commerical treats are bad for him, plus they get EXPENSIVE! Also I was buying the small bags of hay at petsmart and were always left with the hay power at the bottom to throw away. I decided to make him a bedtime treat using this powder.
Ingredients:
Hay power (or regular, just blend it)
Oatmeal
Bananas and or unsweetend applesauce
Process:
Use equal parts hay power and oatmeal, I ususally use about 3/4th a cup of each. Put in blender and blend until powdery. In bowl mix powder and bananas until a paste. When I have bananas that are going bad I peel them, bag them and freeze them. I use these thawed frozen bananas. If it is not pasty enough I add a scoop of applesauce. Then use hay powder to thinly coat counter top and rolling pin. Roll pasty dough to about 1/4in thick. I use parchement paper to transfer it to a baking sheet where I bake the sheet for about 30 mins, flipping once with the parchement paper that is in place, I then remove it. Once the sheet cools, I use scissors to cut 1 inch cubes, I put them in tupperware. I have never had them go bad before using them all so I am not sure the shelf life, but its at least a month. My Szurke goes absolutely CRAZY! Juse seeing the container makes him go nuts.
