Since getting little Pepper I seem to have spent a lot of money on toys which are always quickly eaten or destroyed.  I was wondering what kind of toys I would be able to make for her myself.  I just love this website! I’ve read peoples comments on baking pine cones and also using apple tree branches, telephone books, cardboard boxes.  Does anyone any other suggestions?  I’m particularly interested in toys that she would chew.

Henri likes toilet paper rolls that are filled with hay. He eats the hay and then chews on the cardboard. Sometimes he pushes the roll around quite a bit before eating it too.

Thanks, Pepper loves toilet rolls.  I worry that she eats too much cardboard which is why I was looking for alternatives.

*get a paper shredder Or you could do it yourself (but would take time and you could get a shredder from walmart cheap) and shred newspapers or phone books (both OK to eat). My bunnies LOVE this…I put them in their "digging boxes" or in their condo and they play with this forever!

*Toilet paper roll, with paper…No assembly required! They will love it, just start unrolling some paper and give it to them

*Towel, but not a good one. Tie it in a knot and give it to them to chew or throw around.

*Cut doors in a cardboard box to make a bunny condo…or put a few boxes together (glue stick works) with doors and they will play in it for hours!!!

*open cardboard box with hay and paper and treats in it. THey can dig in here and eat…You get the idea…

*also, maybe stuff you already have, most bird toys are good for bunnies, some cat toys and scratching posts.

A plain old paper bag works great as well as a natural wicker laundry basket (I know you would have to buy this but they last for a couple of months), fill a paper bag with hay and poke a few holes in it and maybe stuff a treat or two inside. You can also take a canning jar ring and poke a hole in it big enough to feed a notebook ring through (or just get one big enough to go around the ring) and hang a bell on it and close, you’ve got a great noisy toy, popcicle sticks or tongue depressors, you can poke holes, feed a piece of jute or natural fiber through and use as a noisy “key” chain and chewable toy. Also for a treat, soak the sticks in 100% natural juice and dry. Lorna that is such a cute pic of Pepper, just like a bunny model pose! Bunnies love just a plain old towel as well, hang it on the side of the cage to attract interest and it will likely be chewed on too.

Great! I’m glad! The canning jar lid I cannot lay claim to theidea, I got that idea from the HRS.  I hope it works out well!

the cardboard box condo is always popular, as is any empty box. any basket that is untreated with a varnish. wicker balls that are used for decoration are great for buns too. hang a basal rope in the cage with wood blocks and treats on it. very entertaining for the bun and for you to watch the bun trying to get it. rolled up grass mats. dried apple branches.
