Hi! I’m getting my bunnies in a couple weeks from an animal shelter and can take them home a day after their neuters. I made some toys after I made their hidey houses and wanted to know if they’re safe! I heard you can give them tp tubes and paper towel tubes, but I’m not sure if that’s okay because of the glue that’s used on them. Anyone know if the glue is safe? Also, feel free to share any diy toy ideas! Thank you. 🙂 These are the toys I made (not the prettiest but they’re my first lol).

Yes it’s safe! Been giving my buns tp and paper towel tubes for years. 🙂 I like to stuff them with hay. Those look like very cute toys!

It’s not exactly DIY but some of my bunnies have really liked chewing cardboard cat scratchers and shredding phone books. As long as you remove the glossy printed parts they are safe to use. You can also make a paper mat out of newspaper (again don’t use glossy parts): http://www.bunssb.org/buns-newsletter/september-2013/make-mat/

I’ve used that same technique to make cardboard mats as well, but it’s a bit more work to cut the cardboard into strips!  🙂

Thank you so much! I might try to make the mat with cardboard strips too. I’d be concerned about the ink in the newspaper.

I like to give my rabbit paper bags filled with hay and some treats inside, he loves shredding it up and getting the food inside. I recently bought some oxbow toys and I’m going to try to recreate them, as buying new toys each week gets a little pricey.

Yeah the newsprint ink is safe but if they have light paws it can stain them slightly.
