        Hi guys.

I ordered Wish some food on august 10, but for some reason it didn’t ship until August 25th. He’s about to run out of food and it’s not supposed to arrive until next week.

I live in a remote community, so buying locally is not an option.

I have plenty of Timothy Hay, but he’s been really bad about eating it for the past few months. I even tried crushing some raspberries in with the hay and didn’t get great results.

Any suggestions on what to feed him until the pellets come in?
I believe the veggies we supplement his diet with won’t be enough.

Have you been to the vet to check his teeth? If he hasn’t really been eating it the past few months and he was previously a decent hay eater, odds are there’s a tooth issue that needs to be taken care of. Overgrown teeth and malocculsions are no fun for a bunny.

As for food, pellets aren’t totally necessary in a bunny diet per-se, so just continue feeding him hay and maybe a bit of extra greens until his normal food comes in.

I agree with A&B. Hay should be the first thing fed so hopefully he just has some points on his molars the vet can trim.

He was at the vet I think 3 months ago and she did check his teeth saying they were fine.
Could they have gone bad in that time?

He eats his pellets ravenously, same as his veggies and treats/fruit.

I think it may be more because we are his new owners and may be spoiling him too much with other foods.

You should only be feeding 2 tbsp to 1/4 cup of pellets depending on his weight, and about 2 cups of greens if he’s a small to medium breed. Non hay feedings should be done every 12 hours not round the clock. This encourages hay eating.

Yes bunny teeth can grow quite quickly and can cause pain. They use different teeth to eat hay than pellets and greens. The back teeth are used in eating hay, and that can only been seen at the vet with a special type of instrument.

He’ll be fine without pellets until the new food comes in. Hay and veggies will be enough. Since it shipped on the the 25th surely it can’t be too long before it will arrive.

The lack of pellets may even encourage him to eat more hay than he currently does.

Thankfully the food came in the same day he ran out.
I’ve also got him a new dish that makes it easy to gauge how much hay he’s eating. He’s eaten a little but but can probably still use some more.
