So I got these two as tiny little tots. Maybe a nickel in size. They are all grown up *tear*

When they first started laying it was actually kind of funny watching because they couldn’t quite figure it out. The boy kept completely missing the eggs and then when he would hit the eggs the mom would get nervous and peck him away from her eggs. She also kept laying the eggs IN the slits of the filter so they would just get sucked right up. Unfortunately, this is a community tank so all they are doing is providing a tasty snack for the other fishies. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were gone by tomorrow morning. Not to mention, I don’t want the eggs to hatch.

The white one is the momma.

She will lay eggs and the dad will follow suit and fertilize them

The dad is usually on watch chasing anything that gets too close to the eggs.

Daddy trying to block me from the eggs lol He is flaring up really big to intimidate me.

Wow! Are the tiny white bubble-like things the eggs?

And to keep the eggs clean they will fan them gently with their front fins to keep any debris off the eggs. It’s really fascinating to watch!

Those are nice angels I love that long fin zebra. My Philippine blues lay eggs all the time. They don’t make it though.

I remember growing up we had two angels that would lay eggs and they all would turn out white because they weren’t being fertilized because BOTH angelfish were females and one was just playing the male role. We always said those were our lesbian lovers

But I can tell the striped one is a boy. Luckily, the eggs won’t be making it! Just going to let nature take its course in my little man made ecosystem for fish lol.

This is their first time ever laying eggs and it makes me realize that my fishies are growin up!

Would love to see your phillipine blue! Yeah the zebra one is my favorite I picked him out and my husband picked out the other when they were babies lol

Yea I had two I think were female they only played eggs once and they weren’t fertilized then I think they blamed each other for it and broke up.I’ll try to get some pics.

Interesting place to lay eggs, at least it’s easy to take pics of. I have a a small EcoSphere (gift) that came with 3 shrimp. Couple months later I noticed tiny specks moving on the glass surface, so now I have a bunch of teeny shrimp in addition to the original ones. The manual said the shrimp “know” not to reproduce because of the limited resources inside. Apparently mine didn’t get the memo.

Very cool pics! I had a friend who had his angel fish over 10 years! I didn’t know they lived that long.

That’s cool!! You never know, I had flocks of babies survive in my freshwater community tank. I literally had to have a steady stream of people come and take bags of babies home regularly! If the parents protect the eggs and the hatchlings do a good job hiding, you might just have some babies to share

Thought k should update. They STILL have the eggs. The fish aren’t even trying to eat them at this point. I think my angelfish did a good job at scaring the crud out of them. They should have what they call “wigglers” tomorrow or the next day. If the parents don’t get too excited and eat them I will take pictures of the hatchlings. But it’s very common for first time parents to eat them when they start wiggling because they just get too excited and its oh so tempting! Lol

I honestly don’t want them to survive and I feel like if they did get to the free swimming stage the fish will end up eating them. I just don’t have enough places for them to hide. And my tank just isn’t big enough for additional babies!

Will post pictures of they make it to the wiggler stage! (That’s where they have tails wiggling out of the egg. )

Well no pictures! The male was cleaning the white eggs off because they weren’t fertilized and were getting mold. And the female FREAKED out and thought he was eating the good ones too so she attacked him and they got in a HUGE fight. So I had to get the laser and point it on the eggs and have them eat the eggs together so they would stop fighting. The male got beat up pretty bad and has split up fins and a good bit of damage on the scales where his gill is. Hoping no infection happens. Poor guy It usually takes angelfish a few tries before getting the parenting down. Hopefully next time she won’t try killing her partner :/
