I’ve always trimmed my own rabbits nails since they were babies, and when I couldn’t I would get my vet to trim them with my bunnies own pair of trimmers. But a few months ago I took one of my buns to a vet I was unfamiliar with, and they used their own pair, because I was out of town, first of all I noticed that they didn’t take nearly enough nail off, also the nail is not solid anymore, it looks as though the underneath is hallowed out, like a trench, all the way up to where it starts, and the last time I trimmed her nails, she bled on 3 different nails, so I stopped, this has never happened before, I know trimming the quick is common but it wasn’t near the quick, and I’ve never made them bleed…. Does anyone know what this is? I’m worried it’s an infection of some sort but I can’d find anything on the web about it….
I’ve included a picture, you can see the trench on both the nails in the photos, my other rabbit’s nails aren’t like that. What could this be? and is she going to bleed every time I trim them from now on?
