        Hello,

I’m trying to help my friend out. She has a 2 year old bunny named baby. My niece named him 💕. Seems baby was fine yesterday and he was himself. Today when they went to give him some celery he didn’t seem well. He was not moving. They took him inside and his wrapped in a towel. His breathing but his not moving 😔.
What do you think this means and is about? They have him outside in a farm house with another bunny brother.

        please help !

If a rabbit isnt eating and is lethargic (doesnt move), doesnt take any interest in its surroundings), its a veterinary emergency. It’s very good that he’s been taken inside and wrapped in a towel, because its vital that he is warmed up and kept warm. But he needs to see a vet as soon as possible.

What has caused this is not possible to say, but even if its something very minor, he is at risk of dying if he doesnt get warmed up and given fluids and pain meds. You can place bottles with warm water near him (wrap them in a towel) just to get his temp up.

There is a lethal infectious rabbit disease now in the USA, called RVHD. If you are in Europe youre probably aware of this disease, but its relatively new to the USA. (It’s not contagious to humans).

Yes, it’s hard to know what is wrong based on these symptoms. It could be caused by any number of things. Bam is correct, this is life threatening and he needs to see a vet immediately. Warming him up is important and will likely buy you some time, but it isn’t going to fix the problem.

I’m so sorry to hear that!  If they’re open to it, it would be great if they could bring the other bunny (the brother) inside where he can get good care.  Although there was unfortunately a tradition of thinking of bunnies as “farm animals” that can live in a barn or hutch, they actually need a lot more care, love, attention, and protection than that, and they really need to live inside, as part of the family.  If you can, it would be great if you could share this with them: https://rabbit.org/2013/02/why-to-keep-your-rabbit-indoors/

Baby’s brother also needs extra care and attention right now, as he is probably grieving a lot.  Bunnies who live together make really close bonds, which these two probably had.  So it’s important to check on the brother extra and help him through this difficult time.

I’m so sorry to your niece and all the family.
