So my 2 month old female holland lop has been with me the past 4 days. Over the past 2, she would lay down on a blanket or her bed and her entire body would begin to twitch. I have listened very closely to her gut area and there doesn’t seem to be anything abnormal sounding there, neither does it sound like she’s hiccuping (although I don’t know if a bunny hiccuping would even make a sound, or what it looks like). However, the sound I did hear was her teeth making a clicking sound each time her body twitched. Her poops are completely normal and she’s eating plenty of hay and water along with 1/4 cup of pellets, and she binkies quite often. I’ve had several holland lops before for years before they passed away and none of them had ever done this, so should I be concerned? If she does this later on, I’ll try attaching a video so you all can see how the twitches look like.

is your bunny all stretched out when this is happening? it is most likely deep sleep twitching. Rookie used to flop and have full body kicks of twitching when sleeping… Sprocket is only about 12 weeks now and he is much more vocal as Rookie never made noises other than the honking and the infamous growl … so Sprocket actually squeeks and lightly whimpers in his sleep and twitches. The only clicking I ever heard them do was the teeth chatter and that too would depend on their dreams. all accompanied by the twitch. I was scared too when Sprocket first made noises. But he does it in his sleep, when he is eating hay and is excited about a new handful of it and when he is cleaning himself he will do light humming to himself.

Yes, when her entire body twitches its when she’s entirely laid out on a fluffy surface, but she does it immediately once she lays down. She doesn’t immediately enter a deep sleep, but are there any signs to check for if it is her just dreaming? She usually likes to fall asleep in a loaf position as well, so if she’s sleeping on her side entirely laid out that’ll be a surprise.

Pretty hard to check if they are sleeping since their eyes remain open the most times. My boy Rookie used to pretty much fell asleep right away after a flop. Sprocket will do the I’m uncomfortable twitch to get comfy and he is terrible at the flop still as he will turn fully over then he keeps kicking to turn back….pretty funny.
With my boys I know they are asleep from the light teeth chatter as well their eyes being not fully open but droopy. Half closed. And their head fully flat against the ground like they melted into the ground lol. Oh and their nose would stop twitching when fully asleep

See if you can find sprocket on Instagram if you have it too and I can post an older video of what Rookie looked like she fully asleep and twitching
