What is it with our bunny? It likes to eat clothes!!! Im so fed up with seeing holes in the kids clothes!!! When my son goes to pick him up or to stroke him he just goes for him!!! Its not just a nibble either, its like half his t-shirt is in his mouth!!! He is fed plenty and has various chewing toys in his hutch as he has been chewing the wood around his hutch too. I know they chew things to wear down their teeth, could he need them filed already?? He is only 15 weeks?? My son is getting quite upset as he feels as if he is being attacked all the time and that the rabbit doesnt like him!! Help!!!

Is he neutered yet? At 15 weeks he should be ready. Baby bunnies explore their environment with their mouths (just like human babies!) Filing his teeth is not necessary unless they are overgrowing, but that is probably not something that would become evident this early on. Most buns like to chew and dig on fabric, and as long as they are not eating what they’re chewing, there is minimal danger to the bun. Can your son interact with him without picking him up and holding him? Buns prefer to stay on the floor and interact on their own terms.

I have only had 1 out of the 4 rabbits do this. Bugsy is particular about what clothes she eats too. Likes the natural fibers, 100% cotton is her fav. LOL

LOL. yeah, mine, too. Any natural fibers… knitted wool garments especially.
I agree with Beka. it would be more enjoyable for your son, as well as your rabbit if they interacted with the bunny having his feet on the ground. he might be nippy because he feels insecure (many rabbits do when being held). My rabbit bit many holes in many things at that age. The best way to get your rabbit’s trust is by meeting him on his level, on the floor. My little nephews just love sitting on my floor and having my rabbits come up to them, crawling on them. As a rule, though, about clothes, I found the baggier the garment the worse the nipping at it.

My pajamas tops used to have tons of holes nipped in them- they looked moth eaten from Cotton getting a quick nibble in.  Now that she is older she does not nibble my clothes anymore- so it seemed to be something that she grew out of.  But I did make sure not to wear anything “new” around her if she was going to be on my lap- so maybe have your son have some designated “rabbit shirts” for awhile and maybe your bunny will grow out of it too.  It probably helps that Cotton spends more time exploring than on my lap like she did when she was a youngun at nighttime when we watch TV.

Yeah Cotton is Cotton’s fav too… HE stopped with the holes at 1 yr there about.

Ruby is still off n on.   If i stop petting her I get the dig and holes in my shirt.

Thanks for all your replies, I will see how my son gets on with just waiting for flop to just come to him!! And perhaps not to wear cotton!!!
I was told that the male rabbits would need neutered at 6 months?? At almost 16weeks is it not too early??

Yea people have stopped telling me I have a hole in my clothes or asking how it got there lol. Hammer has just about gotten over it unless he thinks my attention is somewhere it shouldnt be and not on him. Lucy is just wild and ive stopped trying to find any pattern or way to stop her. If she is particularly angry with me I wear a robe over my clothes lol.  And no its not to early to neuter him, as soon as his guy stuff drops he is ready, which is about 4 months.

Yes he might be ready for the snip already. Depends on your vet, some prefer them to be 6 months but they can be done as soon as the testicles have descended. Maybe your son can put a robe or old shirt on when handling Flop?

Did your vet tell you 6 months for the neuter? Some vets will only neuter after 6 months, but generally a male can be done between 3-4 months when “his guy stuff drops” (LOL Liz!) since it is not invasive. The sooner you can neuter, the less time you’ll have to put up with the hormonal behaviors and the greater the chance that those bad behaviors will not become habits and persist after the neuter.
