hmmm…. a itty bitty problem…..

well as many of you may know, i recently spayed my 2 buns almost a month ago and they did really well during their recovery and were doing well with training untill dum dum dum….

for the last 3 days both have been pooing as they walk….. right after surgery they still did it but clamed down a bit and slowly it was less and less but now, its everywhere…. the funniest thing is, when i set the squirt gun down in the same room, they limit it…… is it just me or is this weird… and lately they have been peeing a whole lot. and even stranger, mochi and emo NEVER pee out of the litterbox. NEVER!!!!and one day, i was playing with mochi and she was climing on me as usuall with her litterbox near by but when she climed on me this time, she looked around a bit then peed on me…. i quickly stopped her and got her off and put her near the litterbox so she can do her thing but she jumped in and didnt do it there but instead she jumped back out and peed on the floor….. what is it with her….. she hasnt done the same thing since but i thought that was really weird. can anyone think of what might be the reason?>

hmm – did anything at all change in the enviornment? another animal visiting, new person or moving furniture?
bunnies mark their territory like that and since it’s only been in the last few days, there has to be a reason for it.

they’re bonded right? otherwise it could be a bunny turf poop war…

they are bonded. took a while to do it but i did there had always been hamsters in the house and no one new has come in. no furniture has changed either. i used to let them roam arond the house without worry but now they leave pooies as they walk….. before they went in the litterbox just fine. after the spaying they were improving lots and only peed in the litter box but its kinda weird to see them peeing on me (this is a first) i thought it was a territorial thing but i didnt change anything in my house. well recently (ever since their pooing and peeing problem) ive been more strict and squirting them with a squirt bottle everytime they did it outside of the box and i hope it is working. cant tell right now but we’ll see. and ive had problems catching them so they are now ofcourse confined and i am working on holding issues with them becuase it has been very difficult to check them and clean them (nail trimmings and brushing) so we are working on it.

does anyone have good way to teach them to let you hold them?

well, if the issue continues, I’d recommend limitied their roaming spaces and adding more litterboxes until their box habits improve. Once they’ve mastered using the box in an area, you can slowly increase their roaming room.

Buns mostly don’t like to be held, think how it must feel to them as a prey animal – they’re up in the air and not having control over what’s going on.

Are your buns just unhappy about being held or are they really distressed and freaking out? Holding a struggling and kicking bun is not only dangerous for people (sharp claws!), but also for the rabbit since they can actually break their back.

If it’s just an issue of not liking it – to help bunnies feel more comfortable, pick them up every day or two, but not always with a grooming purpose. Just give them a hug, pets or a treat. this will help them to not expect doomsday everytime you pick them up. This will help them be less spooked about it, but it’s unlikely they’re going to decide they LIKE being held.

just unhappy. they dont kick when held but when u put ur hand under them to pick them up they run. i will try what u said. giving them treats and such, so they can look forward to being picked up. before, i tried to limit the amout of times i pick them up because i understand that they are pray animals and they dont like it so i only did it when needed. so i guess its good to do it once a day and add treats so they enjoy it more and look forward to it instead of dread it. they are restricted. they have been in the pen fora while. and till further improvements, they will not get more space. i think 2 litterboxes is enough. =)

Have things been improving? I just got some itty bitty bunnies to foster, and I’m hoping to get them socialized and litter trained so that I can get them adopted out more easily. One of them seems to be part netherland dwarf, and she likes to sit in my lap (she’s the size of a softball!) but the other one who seems a bit older, likes to explore and will climb right up and over my shoulder to see whats goin on elsewhere in the room. Are their litter box habits improving too? These little teenys are poop MACHINES!

their pooing have been doing better… once and a while they do it alot…. but other times they do really well. as for holding they still dont like it and will still run from me but hopefully with enough patience and time they will do better. =) awwww she likes to sit on ur lap? wish mine would do that they only put their paws there mine will walk on it but never sit… they are too curious and try to look for a way to get off the chair… they used to do it all the time…. for some reason they are also now fraidy cats….
