Hey guys. So Apollo now has nothing to hide in after ruining every form of bed ever that I have given him! I previously gave him a sort of triangular cat tent thing which he constantly peed in and eventually tore to shreds. Recently he has also destroyed the cardboard house I made him and all he has left is his wooden coffee table to hide under, but it doesn’t seem so cozy. I was just wondering what all of you guys use as hideaways as I can’t seem to find an igloo or home that isn’t pricey or big enough for Apollo. My only idea atm is a hooded cat litter box which I can fill with hay which would only cost £10 and he could happily go toilet inside.

Hi, I actually just use cardboard boxes but my buns don’t hide in them unless I’m trying to take them to the vet. Mine will tear them up so I go to Walmart and buy the cheap backing boxes in the office supplies and cut out a couple of doors and connect 5-8 of them of different sizes and stack them so they can climb and rip them apart if they want, and best of all it’s the cheapest most used toy/hidey house I’ve used.

Anything soft, the bun will think it’s the litter box and pee on it.

You could always make a hidey house out of grids (NIC style) I bought a pack of 24 white grids for £22 on Amazon. I think black ones were slightly cheaper.

I know that’s more than what the cat tray would cost but you can really use the grids for so many things. Perhaps you could see if anyone wants to split the cost and have 12 grids each? I made a hidey house using 12 grids

Hey, for me personally, I really like the hideaways without a base. Instead, I use fleece blankets as the base, and place the hideaway on top. That way, cleaning is a little easier, and it has the potential to remain intact for a little longer, too. (I’ve seen bottomless hideaways within plenty of pet supply stores, and on Amazon. In my experience, they’re all usually $20 USD or less). I hope you’re able to figure everything out soon!

Bunny House – I’ve been doing the same recently as like you said, anything soft or cozy they tend to pee on and so I’ve been giving mine cardboard boxes which is fine because it gives them something to destroy but I just wish there was something more permanent that they wouldn’t ruin! I also find Apollo won’t really hide in the boxes but instead just tears them to shreds, then again he isn’t the shy kind! ?
sarahthegemini – Your idea also sounds good, however I remember a while ago I tried desperately to get a hold of NIC grids and couldn’t seem to find them anywhere for sale in the UK but maybe eBay is a better option as you advised. I’m not too bothered about the cost when it comes to grids because they can’t necessarily destroy them and so they would always come in handy and be reusable.
babblingbuns – That seems very wise as you’re then replacing the blankets as oppose to the actual hideaway 24/7.
Thank you all for your replies! I think I will actually combine all of your ideas. Today I went and bought a large, flexible bath like tub in which I will fill with hay and straw and he can use it as a bed or litter tray, I think I will also buy a bottomless igloo or house of some sort and place it on the blanketed area of his room and also try and get some grids to build some levels for him. This way he won’t just be situated in one little hideaway all the time and hopefully he will distribute his toilets activities else where!
