Just wanted to introduce myself and my furballs. Muffin top is a netherland dwarf and I recently had her spayed. She’s not big on being held but since the spay she is becoming a little less skittish. Louie incredibly personable on the other hand. Sometimes i wonder if it is just a part of muffins breed to have a predisposition to being more flighty wheras louie is more docile due in part to his breeding. I really love this site, I’ve learned alot about bunny behaviour since i ran across it. louie has more chins than a chinese phonebook. lou-bunslou-buns. louie and myself

aw, thank you so much. The picture where you are facing frankie is soo cute. His pattern reminds me of  peanutbutter cup turned inside out.

Hi Molotov! Welcome to Binky Bunny
I have a couple part netherland dwarf bunnies as well and they are also pretty flighty – In general I have found that the bigger the bunny the more chilled out the bunny. I love the pics, especially the one with your bunny on your lap, it looks like he’s just saying “hey…whats up” in a very chilled out surfer dude kind of voice!

Hi Molotov, I’m brand new here myself, plus I’m a brand new bunny owner so I have a LOT to learn apparently!!!

For some reason, only two of your pics showed up on my computer, the black and white one that you are holding…what a pretty baby!

                    Moobunnay:

Yah, I like to think Louie would have a surfer dude kinda voice hehe. He’s so laid back so it took awhile to adjust to her mannerisms. I was spoiled with the way louie liked to be a lap pet and she would hardly let me touch her at first. What do you do with your dwarfs to earn their trust? She still will struggle occasionally while being held and will nip if i try to hold her in my lap too long. (she’s only been spayed three weeks tho, it may be the last of the hormones working their way out, she was a real terror before)

Yeah, the pictures work now. I love the pic of the black bunny where he’s looking straight forward like “huh?!”

Hi Molotov – welcome to binky bunny! 😀

Ooo your buns are so cute!! It does take about a month or two for all the hormones to run down and for them to really calm down – but it sounds like she’s on the road there. Most bunnies are not lap bunnies, it’s very rare to have a bunny that likes to stay there for long. Alsl – many bunnies are nervous about being held, it must feel pretty scary to be that high off the ground and feel like you don’t have much control. As far as the picking up goes, you can try to teach her it’s not a bad thing – by encouraging her with a small treat after you put her down. Earning a bunny’s trust takes some time – I like to lay on the floor with a nervous bunny, since getting onto their level is helpful and also hand feeding greens or hay can help you bond too.

I don’t pick up my netherland dwarfs too much – but I have gotten them to the point where if I come in a room they come running TO me instead of away! I did this by just giving them a treat each time I went into their room or their pen. They prefer to play with me on the floor – but sometimes I pick them up and put them on the couch so we can watch TV together. Of course, that lasts about 5 minutes!
