Hi!!! you all have probably forgotton me, i have been very busy with school and havent been on since december. Well i have a question. Pepper is going though his first big molt. hes shedding like crazy and its hard to keep up! especially when he wont let me barely touch him! Hes been such a grump and growls at me everytime i try to groom him. he has never done this before, i have groomed him before and clipped his nails and he never growled but now he is! do your buns normally get extra grumpy during a molt??

HI Stranger! Good to see you! There has been previous discussions on this. I for one believe they do get grumpy when molting. Best just do preventative care for the extra hair ingestion and put up with the grumps for a while. How’s it going with the Kitty?

Don’t know how the searching will go. Think it has just come up time to time. Every bun is different too so worth asking about Peppers particular grumpiness anyway.

If he hates the brush you could try wetting your hands down and ‘brushing’ him like that. It works and he might be less likely to growl if it’s just ‘mama’ and not a brush!

I am also of the the belief that they get grump when molting

Think it’s Wendyzski that says her Pepper gets PMS – Pre Molting Syndrome. Thanks goodness they don’t molt monthly – yikes!

Off topic: PeppersMama?  If you see this and have time, could you look in on thread in the lounge titled “Wildlife and Plant life” ?  I was thinking it was along lines of what you’re studying, or is it Forestry?  Likely I am waaaay off!  lol

Yep – I’m the one with the PMS Bunny.  When she’s blowing her coat she mostly stays under the furniture, doesn’t like pettins (or groomings) and is generally nippy and bad-tempered.  I don’t know if it’s because of the hormones that cause the shed, if it’s itchy, or if she just knows that she looks funny.  Eventually I will capture her and groom her whether she likes it or not (with raisin afterwards of course), but otherwise I just let her be.  I’m pretty cranky myself sometimes too!

I’m beginning to think that bunnies are like bamboo…….When a certain bamboo species goes into bloom, all of the bamboo of that species, no matter where it is, goes into bloom if it’s old enough…………

Everybody is complaining about rabbits shedding, and my boys are shedding too right now.  Every bunny everywhere must be shedding, I’m even seeing the wild rabbits outside rub up on the cork trees by the lake to get the excess hair off,the roots are all covered with brown and white fur….My little guys have lost so much hair, I could probably crochet another rabbit out of the pile.

                      Hare loss……..Hare club for Men…….

(Please don’t allow me to go on like this when I have become this lame.)

I can’t really answer your question, because Fang is always a grouchy so-and-so, and I would never be able to tell the difference.  Nothing evr phazes Smoky, he’s sweet and affectionate no matter how much hair he loses.  Just can’t trust him around graham crackers.
