Wow, this story says their free roaming rabbit saved their lives by waking them up after a fire started in their home!

        Awesome!

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article4390578.ece for the story and photo.

        heres the text:

It’s a story to make Watership Down seem realistic, but a pet rabbit has been credited with saving an Australian couple from a blaze which was burning down their house as they slept.

The bunny awoke its owners, Gerry and Michelle Finn, by scratching on their bedroom door as smoke poured through the house, in the Macleod area of Melbourne.

The couple discovered the blaze spreading rapidly through the back of their home, destroying part of the inside of their house and some of the roof.

Neighbours then piled in with hoses to help save the house before fire crews arrived, at 6am today.

Mrs Finn said the bunny, simply named Rabbit, is usually allowed to roam freely around the house unless there are guests.

She said that it had alerted the couple in the nick of time.

“We were both asleep. It was very lucky for both of us,” Mrs Finn said. “I don’t think he was very impressed (by the smoke).”

The fire wrecked two years of renovations, which the couple had just completed.

“We’ve been renovating for two years. We started with a disaster and now this. All that hard work gone,” she added.

Mick Smith, a commander for Melbourne’s Metropolitan fire service, said the rabbit had been responsible for rescuing Mr and Mrs Finn. “The rabbit saved the couple from injury,” he said.

He said it took four fire crews to extinguish the blaze, which caused substantial damage. The rabbit and its owners were unhurt.

lol i was reading the comments at the bottom of the page and had to laugh about this

Rabbits are very smart. I have had a pet bunny since 2001 and he has saved my life numerous times. When I was deployed overseas, he spotted and destroyed 2 Iraqi tanks that had crept up on my position, before I even knew what was happening. They are smart (seriously) I’d kiss that little face.

MNot impressed. I had a rabbit named Clyde in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and the rabbit saved my life. My car plunged off a bridge into a river. My rabbit somehow knew what was happening and broke through the windshield and pulled me to shore. We were on the way to the vet. He got a carrot

Great story! I once had a pet rabbit named “Ace” who often flew in my Piper Super Cub aircraft. Once while flying the Alaska Wilderness I went to sleep at the stick. My rabbit “Ace” quickly realized the danger and landed the plane from the back seat safely on a gravel bar in the river without inc

some of the comments are saying the bunny probably chewed a wire and started the fire himself. it is a possibility, but chances are the bunny wouldn’t have survived if that were the case.
