I found this growing wild in my backyard. Since mostly I see it growing by the side of the road where it’s all nasty with car fumes and muck, I don’t pick it there, and I have no idea how it got HERE.

Is this red clover? Anybun? I’d sure like to harvest it if so, I can dry it for tea. It’s awesome!

I googled red clover and looked at the images, and it’s very similar, but the others were more uniformly pink. I am wondering if yours is a hybrid.
Maybe you could get some pure red clover to seed in your yard in a designated spot, then let it spread if it wants too. You can safely harvest what you planted.

Yeah, that would probably be best. The ones on the road are a little more pink, but I did find this plant kind of young, so….

Where on earth does one find red clover seeds? I’ve never seen them in any greenhouses I go to. 0_o

              Hi Mimz!

Well, I’m not an expert but am pretty well-versed and I do believe that it is some type of clover and, maybe even red clover, but since it is an older or younger flower it is hard to say for certain.  I like to check the USDA plants database: http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=TRPR2  It does not look exactly the same.

What you might want to do is check with your local extension service and see what type of local clover you have.

Clover is often considered a noxious weed and so the seeds are not sold at greenhouses and such.  However, I think you would have some luck at a feed store or if you have one where your farmers but their supplies.  The only down side however is that you may have to buy a gigantic bag of them.  In looking at your extension service, the growing of it is highly discouraged so you may not find any seeds at all.

I would steer clear of anything growing along the side of a road and anywhere outside of your own garden.  Too many risks are involoved and not just pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, but also disease, gasoline, car emissions, oil and so on.

I will take this opportunity to plug a great place to get most kinds of herb seeds, Richter’s in Canada.  They have Red Clover here http://www.herbs.com/Web_store/web_store.cgi?product=X1830&show=&prodclass=Herb_and_Vegetable_Seeds&cart_id=789166.20655, and an incredible selection of other kinds of herbs too, both as seeds and as transplants.

OH I miss that clover. It grew all over the place in Louisiana. But Florida I hardly see it. I got many bee stings going barefoot in the red clover.

I find they love the dollar weed too.

You can find pretty much anything on EBAY LOL so you might try there to find the seeds!!
