I made Henri a new enclosure this weekend. I actually found the cubes on sale for 12 each set so I got three sets and lots of zip ties and went to work. I used the first set to make an x-pen type enclosure for around his area. Then I used the other two sets to make him a cage. I am already thinking about reconfiguring the cage part though because I made it four by four square with three four levels and he does not seem to use the top two levels right now. I think I may take off the second two levels and add space to the first two. I got a few pictures to share with you guys.

The cat’s are enjoying it too is right. Sorry I should have posted this thread in the Lounge section. I was just excited about my baby’s new home! It is amazing the difference it has made too. I don’t understand why but since he got his own enclosure he seems to be happier. He always had a lot of time out of his cage but now he doesn’t get stuck in his crate at any point in the day. He used to come running out of his crate when I would walk towards it because he thought I was going to shut him in everytime. Now he knows I am not going to close him in so he doesn’t seem as worried abotu me walking by him.

I think it’s so cute that your kitty likes it too 🙂

As far as the four levels go – you may want to give him a bit of time. Many bunnies need up to a week to start exploring up levels in NIC houses. Although, you might see if you can expand it out to 3 across, since it looks like he could use a bit more space considering his size.

Great new digs!!!  I agree with Gravehearted, you just might want to make the cube at least 3 across considering your buns are pretty big like mine are.

You can try adding a few treats on diferent levels to entice exploration

I put his alfalfa on the third level since he likes it so much. I think I am going to go out and get one more set of the cubes and do what you guys suggested and add another set of cubes to each level. Right now he only has one cube out from each level so part of the problem may be that he doesn’t feel comfortable jumping through the smaller space. If I leave two cubes open on each level then he will have two by two squares on each level to lounge on. I was thinking I will either do that, or I will take the top level off and then expand by one cube both ways so that I have a three by three square of cubes as my base which would give him even more floor space. Which do you guys think sounds better?

mine is 3 x 3 and I’m quite happy with it. The bottom floor goes all the way across, the second floor is two across and the top level is only one cube long, so it’s kinda a perch / lookout that they use for snoozing or when I’m doing something distasteful like cleaning their house, ha ha. The bottom two floors have coroplast and the top floor has a plushy faux sheepskin for bunny floppin.

I would keep all the levels and opt to just add to the sides.  The NIC condo fro my two is 2 X 3 panels and 3 stories high, all the same size all the way up and they have and "L" shape of panels on each floor to flop on.  I left 2 open for them to hop their big heinees up there and made single-high (5 1/4" tall) wood platforms to use as steps up to each level.

Thanks for the input! I think I will leave all the levels. Henri has started to explore even up to the top one now. He was in the bed up there this morning when I woke up in fact. Leaving two open for him to get through sounds like a good idea though because he is a pretty big boy. Well, when you add all the hair he is at least. : )

That is a great looking set up! I like the idea of using the NIC cubes as a pen. I have ex-pens right now and they are so heavy that when I move them around i always squash my toe, or knock the whole thing over, or other probably very funny to watch mishaps. I recently just made a set of stairs up to my bed out of NIC cubes. I have two extremely well behaved buns in my bedroom, so I thought I’d see how they do with it. I bent 3 cubes in half to 90 degree angles and carpeted them, and the buns love it! They were on my bed all last night walking all over me. So at about 2 AM I thought thats enough walking all over me, and I moved the stairs away from the bed. This meant that Teen wasn’t able to get up, but Little Bean surprised me and hopped right up WITHOUT stairs….looks like I have to move to the couch

wow! Great idea on the stairs! I may have to try that to encourage Henri to explore up more when he is out of his pen.

The NIC enclosure is really easy to move. I left the ties loose enough that I could fold it up too. As long as there are a few bends in the design, the two cubes stay upright fairly easily.
