        Hi everybunny!

I was just wondering if natural hemp chord is safe for rabbits to chew? I want to make some toys for my bunnies for Christmas and was wondering if it was safe?

I did some research and came up with two answers: the first being that it is safe, the second being that it is very dangerous because the fibers can cause damage to their stomach. Sorry, but I dont know which of those is correct. However, i dont recall ever seeing any bun toys made with hemp, so maybe there is a reason. When in doubt about the safety of something, it’s best to steer clear.

I also do not know whether or not hemp is safe BUT I do know untreated sisal is safe. Hope that helps!

I think if you’re asking if it is poisonous, then no it isn’t. But like LPT said, there might be some concern about the long fibers. When compressed into boards, hemp fiber is a lot stronger than wood. So I could definitely see that. Honestly, I don’t know for sure either way. If in doubt, it’s probably best to go with something we know is safe (like MD suggested).
