HELPP! Yeti is pooping everyyyyyyywherrre

yeti is an unknown age… i rescued him. he has been neutured and hes been litter trained and he was doing fabulous.. until we moved his cage to the other side of the room. i know some rabbits protest the moving of their cage but i am not willing to put it back where it was. it seems we’re both being quite stubbourn

he pees in his litter box no problem. but for the past 2 days he wont use his box to poop. he prefers to poop all over our couch. i’ve read to pick up the poop and put it in his box and i have done just that since this started 2 days ago. 

does anyone else have any better suggestions?

is this the best method?

if so.. how long might this take?

ontop of that when i catch him in the act i pick him up and put him in his box… i close him in to the cage..

is that wrong?

because the first couple times i put him in there to show thats his box and thats where he needs to be.. he hops back out comes back up on the couch and continues his poop. i dont know what ive done wrong…

I moved a lot with my first buns and had to work on litter training each time. I also moved the poos and put them in the box and put her up after she had accidents. Something I did with her that she liked, she liked to have a blanket or towel draped over the back of her cage, where her litterbox was. It turns out that she needed privacy to poo in the box. Once I did the blanket trick, I feel like she would be retrained quickly. Have you also tried putting hay in the litterbox?

i will definitely try putting hay in the box for him and perhaps the blanket idea would work! thinking about it now.. hes in his cage when my husband and i go to sleep i always cover the top of his cage (because it lifts open and he’s leaned how to push it open and escape.)

his poops are always in his box come morning time. instead of all over the bottom of his cage like he does during the day (when hes not poopin on the couch )

i have another possibility.. we recently bought a new leather couch.. could he be smelling the leather and trying to mark it?

This is the reality of bunny life lol Sorry, Most of the time mine are good, but they still leave presents here and there. You might tryi to limit his area untill he get the litter box good and start enlarging it from there that might help

definitely what we’ve been trying i have just in the past 20 minutes took away his access to the couch. its the only place these “accidents” are taking place. so hopefully with him not having access to the couch he’ll take his cute little butt into his cage to poop.

Can you provide a litter box on the couch for a little while, then remove it when he’s no longer going on the couch itself? Make sure you also clean up the couch well as any smell of his poo will make him think it’s an acceptable place to go in the future.

Putting him into the litter box is a good idea, but I wouldn’t lock him in his cage. He doesn’t really know what he’s doing is wrong, and locking him in his cage as a punishment might make him less likely to go back there when you need him to.

we restricted his access to the couch for the time being. and today he decided to poop over where his cage was previously. i dont understand why hes peeing in his box but poops everywhere else.. when i caught him pooping this morning where his cage was previously i put him in his litter box and he finished his poop there.. then he hung out  in his cage (door open) for awhile and he went back in to his box and took another poop so i rewarded him with a little treat and some love. im taking everyones suggestions and trying everything so HOPEFULLY this will work.

Anywhere he goes poo, put another litter box. You don’t have to buy a ton. I used the cardboard box lids that comes on boxes of copy paper. I picked up a few at the office and put litter in there. Once training gets better, you can start to remove some boxes.
