HELP! With flooring!

Hey guys this is the whole reason I joined this amazing site, I just built my 7 month old a condo with wire squares and zip straps. She has four levels to hop around on. My problem is, is that I used slippery tiles for the flooring are a bit slippery and she slides when trying to get to the 3rd level. I don’t want to use carpet and my second option is ramps but she is perfectly fine jumping on furniture when she’s running around. Thanks guys!

A lot of members use the grass mats that the binkybunny store sells. I use them too because I line my pens with tiles too.

You might also want to try washable rugs. She needs some kind of traction so she can get full use out of her condo. Why do you not want to use carpet, does she pull up the fibers? Have you thought about the very, very low pile “indoor-outdoor” carpeting?

You could try using the tiles upside down if possible.

Yes she chews carpet like crazy. I’ve never heard of indoor-outdoor carpeting, do you where I could purchase it? I think I’m going to order the seagrass mats, do they stay in place?

Coconut fiber mats – I only know bunnybytes and the busybunny who carry them – provide great traction, and clean the bottoms of bunny’s feet. The busybunny lady said a lady with angoras wanted to order huge sheets of it because they brush her bunnies’ footpads so well. They do tend to pick up litter and hay pieces, and take some doing cutting them to a different size. My buns took a couple tentative nibbles when they first got theirs, but have not nibbled them since. Come in several different sizes.

…Just a word on coconut mats – never use coconut fiber doormats – they can be chemically treated which is NOT good for bunnies. Just to be aware. Busybunny carries a coconut fibers doormat in the shape of a bunny – she said these are for human use only and bunnies shouldn’t have access to it for the same reasons.

Also, my vet and I agreed that the carpets with the rubber-type non-skid backs to them can be hazardous to a chewer as well. I was having the same issues with my floor coverings on the tiles I put down, so am experimenting again. My all-cotton bath throw rugs, though low pile and cheap, have been seriously falling apart in the washer. I just ordered a cotton throw from William Sonoma on a great cyber friday sale, so will try that next.

Meanwhile, one easy solution that has helped was buying a yard of 100% cotton flannel from Walmart. It’s a sheet, basically. I spread it out, set her stuff and her grass mattes on it, and she’s loved it. No chew holes at all, sometimes bunches it up to play, and it will be washable. Easily replaced when the time comes, good traction, soft, and any color I liked. I may not need to continue with rugs, but I like them for under the litter pan and mattes under the food dishes so I can clean them in layers.
