Hey people! Sorry I havn;t been on for a while, I have had LOADS of school work to do.

        Anyways…..

Buffy (The albino bun), I such a scaredy bun, if I walk up the stairs and she is on the landing, she will run a away or if I try to stroke her to will run away and flick her feet. Binky is toatally the opposite, he is cheeky, boyish and totally mad. Is there somthing wrong with Buffy or is that just her personality? Oh, and is there any particualr reason Buffy likes to hide under my bed for hours on end, stayed under there once for almost 8 hours! I put food and water out for her and some snacks but she wouldnt come out!

She’s just a scaredy bunny. She may warm up over time or she may not. Some buns can take over a year to become friendly with their humans. You can only be patient with her.

i agree… she’s a scaredy bun.  it may help to hang out on the floor in the same room as her while reading or watching tv -doing anything *other* than paying attention to her.  eventually  she may come out of her shell.  my baby bun took years to come out of her shell.

hmmm… don’t know.  my pinky bun is a red-eyed white and if she can only see shapes it sure doesn’t seem to hamper her curiousity to explore.  she’s a very outgoing & bold bunny.

mind you, when i first brought her home a couple of months ago i restricted her to her enclosure for a week, to only her room for the next week and then let her explore beyond that at her own pace.  all the while i was spending about 30-60 mins a day on the floor with her getting aquainted hoping that this would help her feel safe here.  she was very friendly right off the bat and once she explored an area once on tippy toes with her belly low to the ground, she’d then zoom through it the next day.  i really think it’s just her personality though.  it took baby years to explore the whole floor & there’s still areas she doesn’t ever bother with.

Tucker was like that at first too.  What I found helps with him is to go to him when he’s in a confined space.  He seems to feel more comfortable there for some reason.  Like if I put him in the hallway with me (which was his home for a week) with a baby gate at each end and sit there he will come up to me and let him pet him and he’ll hop on me and everything.  Or if I get into his pen with him now and sit down he will come over and give me bunny kisses and let me pet him.  But if he is out in the living room running free he will come up to me if I am sitting but he will not let me go to him.  I think it’s because in the wide spaces he’s a bit nervous that something will attack him and so I end up startling him.  But if I am on HIS turf he’s a lot more friendly.  When we first got him though even me sitting on the living room floor with him did absolutely nothing.  He’d get close but if I put out a hand he was off and running.

I don’t believe albinoism has anything to do with vision. However, albinos are more apt to have a condition where they ‘scan’ (move their heads side to side) in order to see better. From what I have read on the web, one study shows that ALL rabbits can see only blues and greens so they are slightly colorblind. Now, it is possible to have a totally colorblind bun so they’d only see in black and white but other than trying to train them to go to the green bowl instead of the blue bowl, there’s no real way to find out – and really no reason to.

my scaredey bun has come around a bit, it’s taken lots of patience and time though. I also hand feed her veggies sometimes which helps. I noticed she dart and run away when you’d walk past her with empty hands. When i’m holding something, she doesn’t care. so often i will put my hands behind my back if they’re empty. I also lay on the floor with her and speak to her often.
