I had NO intention of getting another rabbit.  I have 4 cats & 2 rabbits currently and do not have the space for additions.  Anyway, stopped at Petco to pick up some crickets for the geckos when I fell in love.  Someone had “dropped off” a rabbit to Petco b/c they no onger wanted it.  Petco’s mgr was going to drop him off to the SPCA when they closed.  Petco was apparently the 3rd home that this rabbit found in less than 1 week.  I saw his little floppy ears & mocha caramel fur and fell in love.  He was a sweetie!  Loved the cuddles & kisses, etc; completely unlike my rabbits at home.  So I melted and convinced the hubby that we had to give him a home.

That was Saturday night.  They let me sign off to take him.  He came in one of those tiny, “My first cage” cages.  Petco threw in an igloo and several toys.  The previous owner left his hay, food, & shavings.  Now I’m sure you can guess….he is not neutered!  Well since he came into my home he has been HUMPING the cats.  I mean the full on sexual assault w/ the exposed lipstick & everything.  I’ve been having to escort the cats around their food bowls so that they do not get attacked.

The earliest my vet can neuter him his Friday.  He has a pre-check appt on Thurs night w/ a neuter on Friday.  He has a super tiny cage and we don’t have a separate room to put him in.  Our bathroom does not have a real door.  We have an extended beaded curtain thing….I know it sounds crazy but it’s part of a theme.  So no no other room.  So he’s got his small cage in the living room.  My other bonded pair are in their own condo in the living room.  The cats do not appreciate the sexual assaults and they have become pretty aggressive w/ the new guy (Cocoa Puff)  HELP how can I restrain him until Thursday?????

Do you have any other sort of pen? Like an expen or some of those condo cubes that you could make into a little pen? Or if you have some of those, could you put a gate in the door(archway) of the bathroom? Otherwise, he has been in the little cage since whenever his first owner got him, and a few more days probably isn’t going to kill him. As in, only have him out when under close supervision and you can keep him off the cats. If your cats are allowed in the bedroom you could also lock them in there while he is out for a little while if you don’t want to watch him as close.

Whoa! Well so much for that future Flemmie! Cocoa Puff – very cute. Do you have some rigid cardboard around? You might be able to wedge a piece to fit in the bathroom doorway. I agree though, it’s only a few days and he’s going to have to be confined after the neuter anyway so the cage might just have to do. Otherwise, ring around and see if anyone you know has a spare baby gate.

LOL!!!!!!!!! Sorry… I had to read your”exposed lipstick” thing 3 times before I figured out what you were talking about! ROTFLMAO!!!! Gross!

Well, congrats on your new addition! That’s great the vet can get him in ASAP.

OMG!  I’ve spent the last 15 minutes shooing him off of cat butts!!!!

Jersey:  You are correct, DH reminded me that we were supposed to get a Flemmie Giant, not this holland lop.

This rabbit is a BEAST!  I can see why he was returned repeatedly.  This beast has also been going after the cat food!  Only the wet food, not the dry.  I keep telling him he’s a vegetarian, but he doesn’t care.  He jumps everywhere & has no fear.  He runs & jumps w/o looking.  He is insanely wild!  God, I really hope this is just the hormones & he will settle  down once he’s fixed.  If not, I don’t think that he’s going to get along w/ everyone.  I’m really nervous & scared….and incrediably worried that I acted w/ my heart and not my brain.  HELP!!!!!

I knew exactly what you were talking about with the “exposed lipstick” because Jack has shown it every single night since Vivian has come into the picture. I feel your pain!! However, yours really sounds hormonal, and I have no doubt that he will settle down after his hormones die down after surgery. (about a month)

In the meantime, get a stunt double bunny toy, rub it all over the cats so it smells like them. Then put this horny bunny in a pen with the stunt double and let him go at it. If he doesn’t do it on his own – If you circle the stunt double around him, he’ll think it’s doing the Mating Dance Circling, and he should hopefully then begin to hump it. You may want to encourage him to do this to wear him out a bit!

In the meantime, with his hormones at their peak right now, Spring/Summer, and (how old is he?), he won’t be slowing down much, so confinement and replacement (stunt double) is your best bet until his hormones die down after surgery.

I know how crazy it is to have a horny toad bunny. It’s very disrupting and I can’t imagine then having the whole fuzzy crew you have being assaulted – you have my sympathies!!

But try the best you can not to worry about what hasn’t happened yet. You can drive yourself crazy thinking about the whatifs this early. (Believe me I know!). I bet it will all work out just fine, but I am sorry you have to deal with for a little bit while you wait for the hormones do die down.

I don’t know why, but I find this all hilarious. Get a stunt bunny, make it smell like the cats, circle Cocoa Puff with it then let him have at it. LOL! Let hope it is just hormones for your own sanity Skunklionshow.

Jersey:  I have to laugh to stop from crying!

He was identified as being about 2 yrs old.  I found an old teddy bear.  I rubbed it all over his “favorite” cats.  I did not rub it on their butts, b/c that would seriously gross me out.  One of my cats is way too fat to groom her rear…she’s the one he likes best.  I joke that he “likes big butts and he cannot lie.  No other brothers can’t deny…”  sorry I digress.  Well after doing the mating dance. He had one major hump session.  When he was done, he went looking for his cats.  This guy is absolutely insane!!!!!

He jumps around like a lunatic.  His heart is constantly racing, it makes me kinda scared for him.  When he started to go for the cat food…well that just took me over the edge.  Even b/f Leo was neutered, he was never such a horn dog.  He had phases w/ Jessica.  I think over the year he lived w/ Jess unneutered he actually had maybe 6 major humping sessions, but if you squirted him w/ water he stopped.

Does this mean I have to rub the bear on my cat’s butt?  I’m not trying to be gross…I’m serious.  Thank god he goes into the vet tomorrow.  If they can’t neuter him on Fri., I think I’ll cry.

Not long now. Have you been able to pen him off in your bathroom? Hopefully the neuter will bring about some changes but also, you may have to keep him separated from the cats long term. Another thought is it may also be a bit dominance or stress related especially if he had been passed from home to home. He’s had some upheaval so this may be him establishing his place or relieving some sort off stress. Dare I say it, he might need an understanding speutered friend down the track. Say like a big flemish doe?

CoCo Puff (the name his previous owners gave him, my vet says that many male pets are named CoCo so it’s not that odd) went into see the vet tonight.  I started packing him up as soon as I got home from work.  I ended up about 45 minutes early for my appt.  She says that he looks fabulously health and in great shape for a likely caged most of his life rabbit.  He’s a holland lop about 5 lbs.  Well the big day is tomorrow, he’s spending the night at the vet tonight.  It provided a much need break for all of us.  My Phoebe (his super fav booty in the house), sprawled out on her cat bed and took a nap following dinner.

Leo (lionhead) had the opportunity to explore his little cage.  He pooped up a storm in there and even did a bunny flop (does that mean that he’s cool w/ CoCo’s scent?)  Vet said cage rest for about 3 days, so his tiny cage should be alright w/ supervised exercise time.  She then suggested that once he’s healed that he can start to spend some alone time in the big bunny condo.  Well next step after the healing is bonding!

Jersey:  I don’t think I could convince DH that we should get a flemmy to bond w/ CoCo.  He thinks I’m a nut for falling so hard for CoCo, but anytime Coco comes up to him, I feel like he he’s starting to feel the love.  I’ll keep you posted.

I’m so glad he was able to get neutered today so you don’t have to assault the cat’s butts. Funny image going through my head right now (shakin it off) However in the future, if you need to do this again, just the fur scent should be fine) Plus it looks like after his first love rumble with the stunt double he knew better anyway. I couldn’t fool Jack much either, but I know this kind of thing would work at the shelter I volunteered for – when the bunnies were waiting for their spay/neuter, they would be going crazy inside of their pen, and the stunt doubles helped.

Keep us updated with how he is doing.

You know Skunklionshow, you really did a good thing by taking in this rabbit and getting him the care (neutering) he so badly needed. I know that his behavior was nerve wracking and annoying, but he is exactly the type of rabbit that people avoid and leave in a cage all of the time because they don’t know how to fix the behavior. I know he’s not a flemmy, but Mr. CoCo Bean needed you.

Double ditto! Very well put kytkattin. I completely agree, CoCo definitely needed someone like you who would make sure he got the care he needed even though he has been such a challenge. He’s very lucky. Hang in there, I bet things will turn out okay.

I agree – so nice of you to save little Coco Hopefully he will heal from his operation quickly, but remember that you need to keep him confined to a pretty small area because he sounds quite “active” (I guess thats an understatement!) and he could probably easily injure himself running around chasing cat booty.

I’m sorry, but I’ve been reading through your post and laughing for the last 5 minutes. Something about Cat Booty…

My vet described CoCo as “high energy.”  She agrees w/ everyone, that CoCo is the kind of rabbit that would likely have difficulty finding a good home where he would be well cared for in a good home.  His recovery has been going well.  I was most concerned that he would not get back on the feeding trough post-surgery….but he’s been eating like a fiend!

The vet wants me to keep him confined for atleast the next 5-7 days w/ some quality cuddle time on the couch or supervised hopping w/o the cats.  B/c he is “high energy” she used double stitches and glue.  He’s a bit too high strung to be out of his cage.  He feels the need for speed even during couch cuddles.  He’s a little piggy in his cage & a digger.  He hasn’t picked up the litterbox habit, but I hope w/ time.  He got out during cage cleaning time and ran right for Phoebe’s bodacious booty!  I guess he just couldn’t resist (she’s my super obese white diabetic cat).  It didn’t go very well, he got swatted very bad and appears to be cut near his eye.  Vet said to keep clean and monitor, since he will be back in for a check up in a few days.

Vet said that I can’t try supervised visits for atleast 7-10 days post-surgery, just to ensure he’s completely healed.  Should I wait up to 30 days post neuter so that the hormones will be passed?  So far the have shown interest but no agression through their cage bars.  So I’m hoping it will go alright.

I hope images of a 25lb cat being humped by a 4 lb lop adds humor to everyone’s day
