She hasn’t eaten since  about 1 when her surgery was. Or 12.   I tried papaya no go I shove lettuce in her face she just tries to get down.  I upt her in her house with lettuce blueberries 3 mixtures of hay  and her pellets and fresh water.

Gosh I hope she eats tonite. Darn.   Maybe her tum tum is upset.  She could be a little dizzy too.  Maybe.  I kept shoving food in her mouth but she got mad.

She does seem interested in the lettuce and berries but she won’t take a bite.  Awe.   Hopefully tonite later on she will.  I can see me now.  Me waking up every few hours and coming to see if she ate.  gosh I hope she does cause I don’t really want to pay another taxi trip up there.

I can call tomorrow if she still isn’t eating.   Cotton is circling her house now I put it in the living room to be nearer to him. He really likes her.

He was trying to get to her bald patch earlier and groom her but she wouldn’t turn over.  I am going to have to watch that.

I would just continue to keep an eye on her.  After I had Cotton spayed she did not eat well that night at all.  I offered her treats, pellets, hay, etc- tried to hand feed and etc.  She was more interested in laying down and recovering from the anesthesia than food.  By the next morning she did start eating though- first treats, then veggies, hay/pellets.  Spaying is typically a more invasive surgical procedure than a spay- so males can bounce back quicker from surgery than females.  So that might account for a difference in your Cotton’s recovery from his neuter and Ruby’s recovery from spay.

If she is still hesitant to eat tomorrow- I would call the vet and ask about home pain meds (Metacam).  And what injection did they give her for pain and how long do they expect it to last?

Honestly- at this point I would not be too worried, I experienced this with my bunny.  She did start eating the next day- the sweeter treats (papaya) first and then her reg food.  She did have some mushy stool from the disrupt/change in her eating behavior- but it quickly resolved and I only had to give her 1 butt bath.

EDIT: after you can get her to accept a sweeter treat such as a papaya tablet- encourage her to eat veggies, hay and pellets.  If you give in to her sweet tooth to get her to eat- the extra sugar that she is not used to can cause GI upset.  Trust me- I know it is tempting to get her to eat anything and everything due to everything we hear about a rabbit stopping eating.  But since Ruby has a reason that she stopped eating temporarily- it is not as scary as stopping out of the blue/for no reason.

Bunnytowne I hope she feels better, the vet told me my bun didnt eat all night after spay and it has taken a few days for her to go back to eating her full diet normally. I will send some prayers your way, stay calm, bunny will be okay!

It’s not uncommon for them not to eat after a surgery. I hope she makes a full, healthy recovery!

Spays are rougher than neuters, and it’s normal for her to just want torest right now, but you have received good advice about what to do tomorrow if she still has a zero appetite.

Keep us updated! Sending healing vibes!

In my experience it can take at least a full 24 hours to even start recovering from a spay and a full 2 to 3 days to get back to normal. So it would be fully normal that she is not eating – normally they give them a large dose of buprenex which is a pain killer and that can take awhile to wear off.

I would call and ask about some metacam for the next few days though.

I know it’s tough for you since you don’t drive, but is there any way you could get painmeds from the vet or one closer? I really think the vet should have sent you home with some metacam, and sometimes pain meds is all they need to feel well enough to eat.

Well  I called the vet she said to go ahead and mush up something fruity or even baby food and try to get her to eat that.  If she hasn’t eaten by tomorrow morning to call again.  And that this is normal.

Buns..  Such worrisome little creatures. The give us big scares.  She may have nibbled some lettuce and hay but not the banana or the blueberry or the papaya.

I am going to rest a bit then get a small amount of pear smushed up and try to entice her with that.  If not the vet said syringe feed her.  I just let her out and Cotton nipped and chased a little so I went to break it up and he went in his house. I will try them together again upon closer supervision.  When I get off here.  He will probably stop nipping her when I sit with them.

She has a little pile of poo in her litterbox so I think she might have eaten a little lettuce.  I really can’t tell.  She seemed interested in it.  she really likes lettuce.

Phew I am tired did 3 loads of laundry and still gotta put the sheets on the bed. I might skip that tonite and just sleep with a sheet on top.. I do that sometimes when I am worn out after doing laundry and stuff.

I need to clean HB’s litterbox.  Agh so tired.

Oh bunnytowne I feel your pain! I remember when Chloe got spayed. I took off a day from work to watch her. She also wouldn’t eat and I was getting nervous. Finally, she took some basil from me (her favorite) and she was back to her old self. Bunnies….they really can give you an awlful scare!

I’m sure Ruby will be back to her ole self real soon!

I smushed up a piece of pair and syringe fed her.  Poor thing. She ate  and licked.  Then she got restless.. I figure a little at a time may settle her stomache and make her feel better. I will try again in a little while.

OH I have to put the pear stuff in the blender it is not all going up the syringe.

It is so scary when they squirm and I am trying to get her wrapped up so she will be still.  I don’t want to hurt her.

They are getting along good her and Cotton.  He wanted to inspect her hairless tummy. Thats what was bugging them.  Cotton is enjoying his willow tunnel right now.  They both groomed each other. Ruby has to be feeling better if she is doing some grooming on Cotton.

I hope she gets to eating b4 hubby gets home tomorrow nite or sunday.  Her hairless tunny is not really noticable.  Guess cause the rest of her hair is so long.

Gosh I hope he doesn’t notice.  IF he does I gues it is the matted hair excuse. Hehehe

If she really isn’t keen on eating try to juice a dark leafy green like a buk choy or celery and then syringe feed the juice. Sometimes mashed fruit can be too sugary and upsets their tummy even more. The juice should calm her tummy and this will encourage her to eat more.

It sounds like you are doing good w/ the juicing of the fruits w/ her.  I also use baby food, veggie blends or even carrot baby food.  It definately makes the syringe feeding easier.  Sounds like you’re on it!

OH boy  she ate some hay,.   Very little but she ate on her own.  Cool.  She has some lettuce to nibble on and her usual hay/pellets and is in her house resting.

This morning her blueberries and bb papaya were gone and her lettuce was moved.  She was eating something when I uncovered her  house. The vet’s office called to see if she ate anything  this morning too.

RELIEF RELIEF    Now for me to keep my mouth shut when hubby gets home hehee.  I hope I don’t give myself away telling Ruby to be careful or something.
