        Help!

My 2 year old rabbit Luna has two very strange looking nipples (out of 4), and they feel very hard compared to her other two. I did some research and all I could find were articles talking about mammary cancer, however they never provided any pictures and the description they gave didn’t really line up with what Luna has.

I’m very scared for her especially because I cannot go to a vet at the moment, so I’m afraid it might be the worst case scenario.

This is what it looks like. I had trouble taking a good picture of it, but hopefully it’s clear enough like that.

Is she spayed? The picture is hard to see. Could be mastitis or similar, but it’s strange that it’s 2 nipples. Are they a pair or two in the same chain? Rabbits have 4 pairs of nipples (8 total).

            She isn’t spayed yet, no.

Also they aren’t in the same row. Out of the four nipples she has, it’s the bottom two that look like this.

I read somewhere that it might be hormonal, but I’m still unsure because this is very weird to me…

It looks like fluid filled cysts.

It can indicate hormonal changes, yes. Sometimes there will be changes to uterine tissue and mammary tissue at same time. From age 3 onward, intact female rabbits have much higher risk of developing uterine cancer and/or other uterine disorders.

Is she your only rabbit? Sometimes when an intact rabbit goes through false pregnancy, they can have changes to the nipples and even begin to lactate.

Are you unable to see a vet due to covid restrictions?
