Hey there bun friends and bun parents! I posted some months ago about my newly adopted rabbits. I’m happy to report both my buns have now grown to not only accept my presence, but they also let me pet them, and recently Ophelia has started grooming me!

I have a question regarding that last bit though. Though I love that Ophelia is expressing trust and love to me by grooming, she doesn’t just lick or nip lightly. She bites kinda hard, and it hurts. ;w; She’s given me bruises. How do I teach her that the licking and *gentle* nipping is okay, but not biting? I usually yelp when it hurts, but I’m worried about discouraging her grooming altogether.

        Thanks for any help!

I saw your other update, that’s so wonderful!

I would keep up with the “yelping” noise. If you only yelp when she bites/nips, she will get the picture. Does she respond to it when you make the sound?

Cooper was a bit nippy when I first got him, but I would do the yelp thing too and after a few months he doesn’t nip anymore.

Are there any warning signs that she’s about to nip?

              Thank you for the reply!

When I yelp she switches to licking (then back to biting, rinse repeat). Not really any warning, just if she feels apt to groom me (usually as a thank you for treats).

What a brat! LOL. At least she listens when you yelp!

Cooper is obsessed with pulling my husband’s buttons off his shirt. I’m convinced he thinks they are ticks and he’s helping get the nasty parasites out of our fur!
