I woke up and found out my rabbit ate his pee pad, he ate about a inch long and all the little things inside the pee pad were expose, and I found him flopping asleep. He had never done it before so I trusted him that he wouldn’t eat the pee pad, so I also try giving him his medication this morning and he’s been avoiding it (syringe), I thought it was Normal for him to avoid but I try giving him an apple slice to encourage him to eat it, but he also avoiding the apple, I then try giving him his fav treat, pellets he ignore it too and same thing with his veggies, he avoid all of those foods but he ate his hay instead so I don’t think is GI or anything, (fyi I was putting in a burrito so I can give him his medication) but after I put him down he started eating his pellets?? I don’t know if he was angry at me or having stomach issue.

As long as he is eating and pooping, it isn’t a big problem that he refuses vegs and fruit. What medication is he on?

Aventi GI paste and oral baytril, they told me about oral baytril making them lose their appetite and some side affects. I feel like he knew about the medication and trying to avoid it

                Oh yes, I remember now!

The most common side effect of Baytril is diminished appetite. It’s still importsnt thst he finishes the course of antibiotics, but you can expect him to show reluctsnce to some types of food. As long as he eats hay and pellets he will be fine though, but if he stops esting altogether, you’ll have to syringe feed him.

The avanti GI paste is for replenishing the gut with good microorganisms that might get killed off by the Baytril. Give the paste a couple of hours before or after the Baytril.

As for the pee pad- rabbits tend to chew whatever they put in their mouths very well. This gives whatever in swallowed good chances to pass through the intestines and come out with the poop.

For syringe feeding, you can grind up pellets into a powder and mix with water to be about the consistency of pancake batter. There are also recovery foods you can get that are easier to use as they are finely milled and formulated for sick buns.

:). I’m probably gonna sound stupid saying this. They said to give oral baytril every 12 hours, like should I really wait exact 12 hours or can I give it to him like an 1 hour earlier. For example I give him his meds at 10:00 am today, instead of giving to him at 10:00pm is 9 pm alright 👁👄👁

Glad he’s eating his veggies again 🙂 He could have been a bit gassy.

An hour before or after is fine. The closer you can get to 12 hours the better, but there’s a little wiggle room.
