Okay, I am freaking out with worry. I just checked Bindi’s neuter incision which seemed to be healing nicely and it’s green and pusy. Of course this has to happen on a Sunday when there are no vets around. What can I do? Is this a very dangerous situation??

Is he eating and drinking and is the area very red?

I know salt baths are really good for wounds, diluting it in tepid water and dabbing it on the effected area.

I found this answer to someone’s question on All Experts about an infected rabbit’s penis that has green puss coming out of it, I know it is different area to your rabbit but it is still green puss.

It sound like it is infected and you will need antibiotics.

          All Experts answer.

If he smells badly and you see pus, he needs to see a veterinarian to diagnose what the problem is and to prescribe the proper antibiotic.

I do not know what exactly that could be, I have never seen green liquid come from a rabbit.  Rabbit pus is more white than green, unless there is something else going on.

If he is not eating or drinking, that is a medical emergency.

I hope that you will be able to get him to a vet very very soon.

He is eating and drinking. He looks perfectly fine. He’s not in pain and acting like his normal self. It’s just a yucky looking wound.

I am not an expert, maybe try a salt bath and see how he goes.

As you said it always happens on a Sunday, it’s 2.30pm here not sure what your time is.

Hello – it is good that you checked his incision wound since occasionally they can get infected. It is also good that he is still eating and drinking and acting normal. I would – however – get him back to the vet that did the surgery asap because I know that an infection can get serious if not treated. Do you have an emergency animal vet around? They might be able to help with the basic cleansing of the wound until you get back to your doctor. I hope that Bindi’s wound starts to feel better soon!

                  HI,

It sounds like he has a little infection (obviously) and the green looking stuff will be necrotic tissue. You can clean the area with some water water and salt for now, but he will need to be on antibiotics such as baytril. It may be that depending on the sutures the vet used he could have had a reaction to them, it does happen commonly, and he has most likley been nibbling at the wound which tends to make it worse. Don’t worry, i’m sure he will be fine 🙂

ooo that’s scary – I answered your other post about the polysporan, but I would recommend getting him into the vet’s office first thing in the morning. I hope he’s ok

How is Bindi doing? Did he see a vet yet?

Bindi is doing fine. His incision is all nice and scabbed up now. I think maybe it wasn’t actually infected. My bf thinks it looked like he just chewed the scab off. I called the vet and described what it looked like and she said if it was scabbed up it should be fine. It looks like the scab is really healing now. I check on it like twice a day and I will until it’s completely healed. Thanks for all the info.

Whew, I am glad that Bindi is fine and it’s really good that you called the vet. If he pulls off the scab he may need to get a cone around his head so he leaves it alone until it heals.
